I see Texas is sitting on the sidelines there. :(

But we're at 68 this morning at 8 am. It's clear and gorgeous.

I'll enjoy it while I can!

While the maps I posted don't represent a SSW event, I have found that it is useful in forecasting where ridges may form in the extended period. This is more of a cold season tool but it does provide some evidence of being useful in the warm season.

Your thoughts on this Autumn mirror what I'm starting to see and believe.

True. I hope I wasn't confusing there. Not an SSW there, per se, but highly unusual to see much warming at all in the N. Hemisphere stratosphere during the dead of summer. It's usually stable and at the bottom of the scale until early fall.

Gorgeous day today, a bit muggy though, but not as brutal as last week. Temps remained in the 80s.

It's a superb summery morning today....warm, breezy, sunny and a touch of humidity...72F/61F...another top notch weekend ahead as we've been spoiled with a gorgeous stretch of weather.  Can't beat it.  I'm sure all the beach goers are ex-tactic.  Have a wonderful weekend!

I finished with 0.17" of rain this morning.  The line is still bubbling, but it has sagged just south.

As expected, my area is officially in a drought according to the latest drought monitor update on Thursday. Some small spots within that area that received more rainfall in the last month probably don’t really qualify and other spots including my place could possibly qualify as moderate drought or D1. With only 0.30” so far, this would be my second driest July since 1990 if I don’t see any rainfall for the rest of this month! In July 1991 I had only 0.13" & July 2012 just 0.61”. There are big cracks in the ground! This will go down in my memory as a hot and very dry July!

I'm a PACNW poster, but I thought I'd pop over here for a bit (cause that place has been real annoying today). You guys have some super cool weather, I'd love to experience a real Midwest blizzard someday.

The more the merrier buddy. Always welcome in here. :)

I'd like to take a week off myself and go back out to the flatlands or up to KS or Nebraska and get hammered on for a couple days. I got to see true blizzard conditions (near zero, 35mph winds, zero vis) once back when I was a kid and then a monstrous storm back in 2010-11 that dumped snow so hard that you literally had to feel for the edge of the road and drive 30mph or less just to go. Our extremes are about as exhilarating as they come.

We're about the most genuinely friendly and honest group of people you'll find anywhere on the web too. I have awesome friends here.

As of yesterday, the mean temperature at Grand Rapids so far this July is at 75.7° and that is tied for the 12th warmest July with 1919. Can we call this a 100 year event? (note 2019 should not end the month at 75.7°) Cloudy and 86 here at this time with a DP here at my house of 73°

Last night I had a short but heavy shower that brought a quick 0.24" of rain, Still have not had much thunder or lightning again this year this is the 3rd summer with very little storm activity

I was hoping for some decent rain tonight, but it's not looking great at the moment.  There is decent rain in ne and sw Iowa, but not much in between.

Cells are increasing and developing on the back end of the original precipitation shield, but mainly in sw. and nc. Iowa at the moment. That gives me hope that it will fill in over central sections as well. DVN AFD mentioned that areal coverage should actually increase as it moves east, for a change. Often all signs fail during a drought though. We’ll see. It’s sprinkling now.

Good Monday morning! What a fantastic weekend of weather we had over here. It was one of those warm, not to hot, breezy and summery days that I will remember to be quite enjoyable. Spent most of the day yesterday at my buddy's pool, grilled some good food (chicken thighs and zucchini) and had some fresh organic tomatoes from his garden. Nothing better than some good food and great ambiance. The simple things in life that count.

Some showers are approaching the area but fading as they head east. In terms of moisture, this will be it for the region as all I can see is "Sunshine for Dayssss"! Can't wait to crack open the windows later today and let in some refreshing air.

N MN/N WI/UP are poised to see some chilly nights this week as Canadian HP centers itself right over the region.  Both Tue/Wed mornings are forecast to have very low DP's for late July standards.  We saw this back in Aug '17 and saw guidance bust to high on temps.  Let's see if temps drop into the low 40's.

Nature works in mysterious ways and I enjoy seeing it when it balances out the weather pattern.  It's been rather dry across the heartland of the nation, but that is going to change quickly as we enter a wet period for the Plains/MW region later this weekend into next week. Both GEFS/EPS highlighting those folks west/south of the GL's in the prime region to see some beneficial soaking rains.  Blocking and suppression is going to be strong around these parts.

Yet another rain event was a bit of a dud for the CR/IC area.  I picked up 0.21".  Dubuque was one of the big winners with 1+".

I thought it was going to be nice today behind the front, but apparently not until later.  It's sunny, still humid, and the wind is light.

Hit 82F very briefly late morning before an early shower set in. Been in the comfortable 70's ever since. Very disappointed that here in Marshall, while we scored the early shower, the good and heavy stuff missed again. Under some trees didn't feel a drop. Meanwhile Jackson got drilled even had a warned cell mid-afternoon. Wouldn't shock me if they reported 1-2" totals there. Such a contrast can happen with summer T-showers. Front yard is pretty much brown so we needed a good soaking. NOT happening tho..
