October 2019 Weather Discussion for the PNW

Really impressive surface pressure map on the EPS with the next trough.  It firmly delivers chilly continental air.  I always like seeing good balance between the offshore and inland portions of the surface high complex.

Was sunny, cloudy, and raining when I took this pic a bit ago. Been spending the day winterizing, putting away the summer outdoor furniture, hoses, etc. It can snow soon now. Just need to get the snow plow and chains for my mower.

Those cedars in the background look like they are on death's door.

Actually very healthy. They are doing their fall shedding.

Probably the best thing to tell your kids for now. Then when they are gone you can tell them you shipped them off to a cedar farm.

Do you ever go outside? Cedars shed every fall. Used to be a lot of work at the golf course to clean up all of the cedar shedding. The non shedding parts of the branches are brilliant green and look awesome. But go ahead and continue your little pot stirring...nobody does that quite like you.

Anyone on here would have been fine with 1985, at least in the Seattle area. In spite of being November it remains the best month I have seen here. Some places had 12 consecutive max temps of freezing or below and pretty much everywhere had 10 out of 12. Two major snowstorms in there and snow on the ground for two straight weeks.

Yeah, that's the Granddaddy of all November Arctic Blast in recent memory. I would take that in a heartbeat.

Olympia got down to 0 on the 22nd and 23rd. Down here in Oregon, I know Seneca got down to -31. Very impressive frigid temperatures for November.

Hit a high of 64 so far today. Should be a great night for Greek Fest in Portland.

Watch out for all of the dying cedars that could fall at any moment!

18z looks slightly better than the 12z regarding the trough early next week. It also shows a big storm hitting on day 10 now in B.C. and WA a bit.

So you can complain about it mostly missing your area and start worrying about the next storm?

His dead Cedars might all fall down if the storm trends south.

Interesting to see the gfs step up the cold a notch on the 12z then again on the 18z. Interested to see how the long range plays out maybe pretty wet.

This forum is now just Jesse trolling anyone whose opinion is even slightly different than his... and Jesse stroking those who post things he likes.

Its pretty much Jesse offering his opinion on every post.

All trees are dying... we always need rain... it should always be cold. Toe the line people!

That's pretty wild.

Is this looking colder for you than the last trough?

Way colder. 700mb temps only bottomed out around -11 to -12C with the last one.

For reference for those that don’t know, 700mb temps here are equivalent to 850mb temps for the PNW lowlands. So it’s a very chilly trough for anytime of the year.

"Blackhole" talked about them a lot in his Facebook posts about Utah weather too. He just got a job with the Phoenix NWS, which is pretty cool.

18z operational is still pretty dry down here, but points an absolute fire hose at Vancouver Island.
