Looks almost like volcanic ash plumes they’ve gotten so big. I wonder if this will keep temps down tomorrow. Only potential upside, if any. I say this understanding full well the hellscape that is east coast heat and humidity, my experiences out here with the incredibly heavy smoke scenarios during heat waves, the smoke almost makes the heat feel worse despite the temp being a little cooler. 1 Quote Britton Rd Bellingham Weather Station: https://www.wunderground.com/dashboard/pws/KWABELLI103?cm_ven=localwx_pwsdash

All that extra heating from absorption in the mid levels further suppresses rain and amplifies orographic blocking.

Phil
I think smoke has a cooling effect. We dropped into the 40s this morning, almost 10°F cooler than forecasted. Maybe it augments the nocturnal inversion/BL decoupling somehow? Would have expected the opposite. It’s ~ 4hrs after sunrise and just now the sun became visible as a faint, dark red disk. Like a cloudy day with a red hue. Wonder how temps will be affected. TT-SEA
Smoke is really a cold lovers dream... you still get the cold nights and then daytime temps go nowhere.
