November 2023 Weather in the PNW

A beautiful, frosty low of 27 this morning.

Ended up with a 51/26 yesterday. Highs have not been overly impressive with this cool and dry spell yet, but lows have been chilly.

East winds should spread across most the area later today. Will be curious what that does to afternoon temps. Something tells me the extra mixing won’t to a lot to keep things cooler.

OLM has fallen on hard times for low temps this season.  Even SEA came in colder than them this morning.

SEA - 30

OLM - 33

MBY - 24

Up to 51 in North Bend now... 49 here.   A little breezy but not much.   Just a spectacular late November day.

The seepage of dry air has really helped sheltered locations east of Puget Sound get some very decent min temps.  So far this has been a totally clear cold snap here.

While the overall seasons are like that in the PNW, months like Dec 2015 and Feb-Mar 2019 in the mountains produced like a whole winter's worth of snowfall in one bang.

Also, I bet this winter in NE Kentucky here does more than last winter. ;)

But there are significant exceptions.

I wouldn't say that, but I still think one event is reasonably likely.  There are some very good Nino winters on record so that is always possible of course.

Don't think much... ECMWF shows about the same coverage through Wednesday and then it starts getting active again.

That map must represent the odds for any given Nino winter vs total snowfall for Nino winters.

Must be low level fog along the east side of the island.  It’s been crystal clear here all morning and dropped to 27.  We are typically just above the fog layer here when these winter inversions set up.

I was just going by the fact the offshore flow diminishes to almost nothing after today.

Still looks like a decent offshore flow (out here at least) tomorrow morning and again Tuesday morning.

Comparison of 12Z ECMWF yesterday (top) and 12Z ECMWF today (bottom) shows a trend towards more AL troughing which  becomes a typical AR set up rather than a cold onshore flow situation.

Frost has been building up the past few nights here in the shaded areas. Looks like there’s a dusting of snow on the ground in those areas.

Considering last winter was the warmest and least snowy on record for the region, that’s a verrrrrry low bar. 😆
