Absolutely pouring out there right now.

August 1899 had an average high/low of 74/50.1 at SLE. Good for a -7.2 departure. They had a 77/40 day on the 11th. Not quite as impressive as the 73/35 on July 3rd. 0 precip in July, but 2.91" in August. Good for the 2nd wettest August of all time at SLE. It was also the coolest August on record at SLE. The most recent top 10 cold August at SLE was in 1980, actually #2 on the all time list.

Scottish weather that summer regardless. All of my emo friends were begging their moms to drive them to Tehama county.

Will be passing through Tehama County on the way to Chico in a couple weeks. Hopefully I can get in another trip down that way before the school year ends.

What's funny is my mom talked about the heatwave of 1967. She said the heatwave broke after I was born. I was born on September 6th, 1967. I'm not sure if her comment was true but it's interesting people are talking about that heatwave.

Apparently?   Have we not discussed elevation before?  😀

And I know how to translate GFS snow maps for my area... accounting for its known issues.    Not saying it won't snow here next week because it probably will and the ECMWF showed that.   But the 00Z GFS run translates to nothing here.

Moving to Cashmere on Friday, from Kent. Hoping for some snow before winter says Bye Bye. It’s been so warm and snowless over there recently, thanks El Niño 😢 Sunday could be a fun snowy Leavenworth day trip for me it looks like, and now only 20 minutes away 🙌🏼

Wow!  Is this a long term move?   Cashmere is a beautiful area.

That year was wild. I was randomly reminiscing about December 1985's insanity the other day and trying to think if we've ever seen an example of a pattern getting as stuck as that one across the region. From the 14th onwards, The Dalles saw just a 7 degree temperature spread. Truly the mother of all inversions.

What were the snows like the previous month for the Portland area? It looks like Salem did very well on 11/30 and 12/1, and PDX recorded around an inch and a half starting December.

It does, your in the bullseye. In reality this is a slight jog toward the other models, but GFS is still digging that 2nd trough a little bit to the west. In this case it works out for some folx.

I thought 1,100 as well.   Until I found our house plans with topography maps from King County.    Also... the elevation app says I am at 980 feet in my driveway.

We just sold our home in Kent. Found a great rental in town, definitely excited for a change of pace. We’ll see how we’re feeling after the year lease, but yes we love the beauty of the area. This summer is going to be great ☀️

I went to the Lost Coast and Humboldt Redwoods last June for the first time. Incredible area. Cheap flight to Sacramento and a 3 hour drive. Hiking through the marine layer was fascinating, those forests are incredibly efficient at sucking water out of the fog.

It gets really hot there, hope you love 100 degree weather!! They get some good snow, not as much as Leavenworth but more than Wenatchee for sure.

We come from the land of the ice and snow.

Yeah, I’ve heard it’s pretty amazing. Alaska and California are my next places I want to take my yearly vacation to check out all the national parks.

It gets really hot there, hope you love 100 degree weather!! They get some good snow, not as much as Leavenworth but more than Wenatchee for sure.

I think their summers are pretty tolerable compared to some of eastern WA. I would guess average highs in the mid-80s, lows in the low to mid 50s.

What were the snows like the previous month for the Portland area? It looks like Salem did very well on 11/30 and 12/1, and PDX recorded around an inch and a half starting December.

Pretty good once you got away from the heart of the metro. The winds ate into PDX's snow a bit on the 30th but we had about 5" here that day and then a couple more inches of snow/sleet on the 1st-2nd with the transition event. Also had a couple inches with the arctic front going into the first chunk of arctic air on the 21st-22nd. And then a couple other dustings.

Washington County also did really well  with the storm on the 30th with less east wind interference.  Generally 3-5" with temps in the low 20s.
