March 2015 PNW Discussion

Air mass today turned over a little quicker than I thought it would. 68/50 in Eugene is not too typical for March however. Humidity isn't too easy to pull off this time of year for pretty obvious reasons.

EUG is where it's at!

I mean, sure. It was unusually humid for this time of year, earlier today.

But saying it's "sticky" for March is kind of like saying it's "ferocious" for a bunny. This place was founded on hyperbole, no reason that should change now.

Speaking of hyperbole, February's PDO came in at 2.30 capping off the highest DJF on record by a relatively large margin. Cheers!

Clearly, the PDO has succumbed to global warming. This wouldn't have happened if Al Gore had been president. Same with 9/11, Katrina, the Great Recession, and Oct 2014.

Just because I'm making fun of you doesn't mean it touched a nerve. It's just fun to make fun of people sometimes. You know this.

Or are you saying my comment touched your nerve???

A pretty sweet 87 here in Palm Springs with a dewpoint of 32.

I don't mind missing this coming weekend but today and tomorrow are not maximizing the benefits of being on vacation and escaping the weather at home. I would prefer endless rain there when I am gone!

65-70 and sunny is better than 87 and sunny.

My parents are also on vacation East of LA and were complaining about how it's been about 90 degrees.

Someday, your life will be perfect.

Personally though, that sounds like great June/July weather...March not so much. Granted, if I had just gone through the last 2 months in the Midwest/Northeast, I'd probably be enjoying it. But overall, give me springy weather in spring.

Why would you come here if you don't like dry heat??? It's actually a little chilly in the breeze now that the sun is behind the mountains. Today was an absolutely perfect pool day. Does not get any better. And it's dry so you don't even sweat.

I love nice weather at home regardless of the season. To have it so nice in March is an added bonus. Wish the timing worked out better so I could experience it. But I have seen lots of nice weather at home in the last year... so it's hard to time a trip and miss only bad weather lately. :)

Yes, we know the weather has been nice when your main complaint is it won't rain enough at home while you're gone. :)

Indeed. We had margaritas on the deck in almost 70 degree sunshine on Sunday. No wind and we had the patio umbrella up because it was too warm in the direct sun. My desire to roam has been pretty low for quite awhile.

I think we should have a sweaty, stinky threesome in some place like Galveston this July.

It is currently 78 here in Orange right now (9:48 p.m.) with a warm Santa Ana wind! This is really a warm night for this time of year even with a Santa Ana wind, and is more typical of October or very early November.

They're visiting my sister and nieces and nephew who live in LA.

Swinging by some National Parks East of LA while the kids are in school this week.

90 degrees is great for the pool, but for anything else I will take 65-70 in a heartbeat.

We are by the pool in Palm Springs of course   Most people come here specifically for the warm, dry weather.  Nobody would pay money to travel to Palm Springs and then say I hope its chilly.   :)

This whole region has been built for people seeking hot weather.

I am sure the people that are here would almost universally take 90 over 65.   With dewpoints in the 30s it actually feels really nice.   And it was breezy today.

Another el nino on its way...well hopefully it's strong enough so that 2016 we'll see a swing back in the opposite direction. On another note...sunspots have dropped considerably.

Definitely a factor behind the upcoming -NAM. Can't remember the last time I saw ridging over Greenland.

That said, the background state may reassert itself during the rebound in tropical forcing..we'll see.

Way too cloudy to get too warm today. Kind of a bummer. If it's gonna be this mild, might as well go big. Today had the potential to be 70-72 degrees without these clouds but most areas will probably top out 65-68.
