All this talk of N/S gradients and such. There's been an N/S gradient on departures... it's been farther south than usual though. Most of northern CA still managed a warmer and drier than average May (somehow). Anything under a million acres burned this year down there will be a win at this point. Prior to the past decade anything approaching 500K would be a massive fire season in Oregon, but we've skewed upward in a big way in the past decade. A fire season like 2004 would be incredible. TT-SEA
Some blue sky here now. Garden is doing great... the warmer weather and consistent rain is really garden friendly. There has probably been meaningful sun on more days than usual in April and May because there has been no chance to lock in the marine layer which often happens in a quieter weather patterns. But regardless of all that... statistically we are really due for a 5-7 day period with no rain out here. That is becoming the most unusual aspect to this spring in this area at least. 2 2 Quote **REPORTED CONDITIONS AND ANOMALIES ARE NOT MEANT TO IMPLY ANYTHING ON A REGIONAL LEVEL UNLESS SPECIFICALLY STATED**

That would also mean that there were never any fires in BC and CA as well... since a smoke-free summer would have to really be smoke-free across western North America because smoke tends to drift. If it rains 0.02” at 4am that streak is over. Why can’t you just go outside when it’s dry? Yeah I’d bet quite a few of those rainfall days were less than 0.10” and/or fell in the overnight hours. 1 Quote Tacoma WA elevation 300’ Monthly rainfall-3.56” Warm season rainfall-11.14” Max temp-88 +80 highs-2 +85 highs-2 +90 highs-

You'd normally figure this would be an entire summers precip map.

Phil
The frequency of warm season +TNH over the last decade is unprecedented since at least the civil war, if not all of US history. For context, that is analogous to this spring’s wet pattern recurring in 8 of the next 10 years. With the warmest springs still colder than any of the 2013-2021 springs.
