Climatology for today  November 28^th

 

30 year average h/L  41/28.  120 year average H/L 39.9/27.5

Record high 67° in 1905. Coldest maximum 18° in 1950

Record low +5° in 1969. Warmest minimum 48 in 1916

Most pricip 1.58” in 1968

Most snow fall 7.9” in 1965. Most on the ground at 7AM 6” 1940

Last year H/L 51/36  with 0.43” of rain no snow.

Don't blame ya. Somehow I feel like Ma Nature is teasing us right now.....i.e., enjoy this weather now becuz harsh Winter conditions are coming.

We've officially wiped out our temperature deficit for the month. We were 5 degrees below normal almost 1/2 way though the month and we are now .9 degrees above normal, with above normal temps the rest of the month. Yet another example of my skepticism for any crazy winter forecasts. We had 25 CONSECUTIVE above normal months that ended this past August, and now we're back to 3 months in a row above average. No snow this month either so we are now 2 weeks past average date of first accumulating snows. Not the fast start to winter that the models were showing here in November for sure!

So far November 2017 has only had 0.2" of snow fall at Grand Rapids,MI Going back to 1899 there have only been 12 Novembers with 0.2" or less of snow fall in November. Here is a list of past ones here at GRR with 0.2" or less. 1905 0.1", 1906 0.0", 1907 0.0" (not sure if I trust the reports from these years) 1927 0.1" 1931 trace, 1946 trace, 1948 trace, 1984 trace, 1998 0.2" 1999 0.1", 2001 trace and 2010 0.1" Those looking for a  lot of snow may not like this but some of the above winters seen the lowest amounts of snow ever recorded here in Grand Rapids 1905 20", 1906 30" are the 1 and 2 years with the least amount of reported snow fall. 1948 only had 33.7" is at number 3 The good news is as I said I do not trust the reports from 1905, 06 and 07.

Welcome.  There are a few of us Schnack nomads on this site.  Too bad his chat went away.  Apparently he hasn't been able to find a replacement for it since the site he used for it shut down or something along those lines.  Lots of good posters and insight here though.

Hit 62º in Marshall for a couple hrs Tuesday afternoon. Down in the upper 20's now..yet another serious overnight plunge by SMI standards. Extremely pleasant autumn wx with no bugs!

Big temperature difference in GR metro area this morning.Looks like the official low will be 36° but here at my house I had a low of 27° right now its 36 and clear here at my house.

Nothin much for the rest of the week weatherwise, other than a weak frontal passage. Temps will remain at or slightly above average. Big changes in store for next week.
