Looking at obs across western Washington the snow is continuing in a small favored geographical area. Sea Tac still getting some snow with temps above freezing.

Yep, currently at work at SeaTac and it's still snowing despite the radar not really supporting it.

Models did a great job. Even the nam. Colder than i expected as well.

 

I think everyone underestimated the cold.  The ECMWF looked pretty off the wall compared to the other models and it ended up being right.  I did have a suspicion on Friday night there was more cold air in play than we had thought when Stampede Pass dropped to 11 degrees and I had a freezing east wind set in.  I have really learned what the various east winds here mean for the big picture.  It is the most important aspect of my micro climate.

Today will be my 10th day this season to have a max temp of 40 or below.  I've seen many winters that didn't have that many for the entire season.   Still hanging in at 31 at present.

Much to my amazement I ended up with the same, just under 3".  I feel like a buffoon complaining like I did last night only to wake up to an additional 2.5".  I feel bad for guys like Bryant and Skagit getting shutout.  Temp of 31.8F

Merry Christmas to everyone!  Even though I don't post much at all I am addicted to this forum and enjoy the analysis and humor.

Ended up with about 2" here.  It's been snowing for quite a while this morning even though the radar doesn't seem to show anything for my area.  Kind of odd but very fun for Christmas day. Hoping for an epic January and February.

Too bad the PDX totals don't get officially recorded. The F6 snow totals for last winter at PDX are still from the WFO office. Like on 12-8-2016 when PDX measured 1.0" but the F6 form shows 0.5" which was the WFO total. The January totals are from the WFO office as well.

NWS PDX expects winds to turn back offshore again later tonight.

That bodes well for tomorrow night/Tuesday. No reason why there can't be a repeat. Especially with all the extra snow cover now.

The ECMWF suite of models shows a major pattern shakeup by day 10.  The operational and control models shows some kind of ridging over the GOA / Aleutians and the mean is showing the Eastern trough lifting lifting out and being replaced by a ridge while heights rise over the NE Pacific.

Euro puts us back into a ridgy pattern starting around New Years. The big story here is the pattern looks to remain somewhat amplified. No sign of raging zonal flow, cold or warm.

We did pretty well.  I always like our chances on the back side of a low when it tracks just south of Seattle.  The east wind and Olympics can be curses here, but this time both of them worked for me.

WFO office seems even worse than PDX for snow measurements. Same sea level elevation and also a little windier during the big gorge events.
