February Weather in the Pacific Northwest

Seems to me like the thresholds are met, 925 freezing, 850 -5c

Yeah it was raining at my house when I said that so I just assumed it would be nothing but rain tonight. Maybe some spots under the CZ will get lucky.

Seems like tonight's airmass wouldn't be cold enough for lowland snow anywhere.

I agree. 34 here, but that I think is mostly low level cold, probably due to the remaining snow cover. There were some flurries earlier around 5pm, but everything since has been of the liquid variety. I would estimate the current snow level around 2500-3000'.

here too, not sticking yet though. I thought the snow level was gonna be 4k ft today?

It will be eventually. Right now there is just some cooler air and offshore flow ahead of the next system. Kind of like the setup for the lowlands yesterday morning plus 1,500’.

Oh yeah. It will definitely turn to rain later and probably melt all or most of my remaining snow pack...

Still surprising, though it is in generally just so much easier to get snow here in late winter/early spring and with much more marginal airmasses. I think its due to the systems having weaker onshore gradients.

The mountains look to just get buried in March.

I think there is a pretty high likelihood we see an anafront at some point in the March 10-15 period.

My brain is smoking thinking how bad I want to be at my cabin. They look to get a huge dump. 16-24 inches predicted is crazy for republic.

My brain is smoking thinking about how bad I would love to have a cabin or hobbit hole out there someday.

Washington mountains should be way above normal and Oregon mountains should really get caught up to normal or higher with a March coming up like this!

Could be, but we're also just seeing a much better pattern for cold air masses now, including onshore.

You would definitely have seen a ton of snow with this pattern in January or December. We obviously weren't seeing a tanked -PNA those months.

This may have to do with the ocean temperatures bottoming out in early Spring. For example, the water temperature in Astoria is only 40.6 degrees right now. Less than 9 degrees above freezing!

Even a 2-3 degree difference in water temperature would make a difference to the moderating influence of onshore flow.
