In 2010, Lindbergh Field saw the record for coldest July average high temperature go with one fell blow. The 69.39 average high for 2010 broke the cool record of 71.58 in 1987.

However the WRCC data for that station starts in 1939.

Extra credit if you can name the movie that the first sentence in this post was inspired by.

Finally got some decent rain yesterday afternoon and overnight. Was in Eugene for the thunderstorm. Pretty impressive by PNW standards.

Had some very heavy rain come through around midnight back here at home. Probably almost 3/4" total. Up around 1.5" on the month.

Nice to see the positive changes in the models. Yesterday ended up pretty enjoyable overall here, it was only 56-57-ish but fealt much warmer in the sun. This morning has been mostly sunny apart from some high clouds...

Still too wet to go outside for the kiddos.  Maybe in a couple weeks when they come down again there will be some dry weather so we can take them to the park. Until then, it can rain all it wants.

00Z EPS was warm for the entire holiday weekend.

But I am sure this is a very wet pattern in the 10-15 day period... you just need to be creative.

I think I called the pattern pretty well. And I’m still not concerned about ridging sticking around for any prolonged period of time (until the WPAC machine turns on again).

Right now there’s some mishandling of wavetrains upstream that is typical of the monsoonal inception period. In the end, it will be sorted out, blues will replace oranges, and silly narratives will collapse (or be spun some other way..I don’t know which).

You sound so sure of yourself. It will be interesting to see how your 'wet June' narrative plays out...

Today is the last day of rain then it will probably be dry for the next two weeks or longer. Then we can start hearing the Mordor smoke comments!

Rain did not make this far north... dry with high clouds here this morning.

SEA is +5.6 for May with .36 of rain so far... and the chances for more meaningful precip this month dwindling.

Last May ended up +5.0 with .12 of rain.

Not much of a difference really.   Even though the large scale pattern has been quite different.

Solid rain event last night for the Portland area. 0.60” at PDX with a little more falling here. Great to see, just a shame it will be turning bone dry for the foreseeable future now.

Wow... that is great. I was just about to check the totals down there. I was thinking the ECMWF had overdone the precip but I guess not.

That and Silent Hill with the ashfall.  But I really hope we can avoid that this August/September.

Considering that a large portion of your smoke last summer came up from CA... it might be much improved this year despite what is happening locally.

It could not be any better down there now as we head into summer.    As good as it gets for late May.

Would also be nice to keep the number of 90+ days below 30 this year too but I'm not expecting it.

Looks like there will be on and off against convection on the east side for the foreseeable future. Good news.

Well, I actually woke up because it was raining so heavily, which hasn't happened in a while. So that's pretty great!

Looking lush and green in the Wenaha country right now. Stole these from a Facebook page I follow.
