October 2019 Weather Discussion for the PNW

That's a physical theory on what caused the universe to expand. It doesn't explain what caused it or how the matter originally came into existence.

Actually the Big Bang is the expansion itself. What existed before it, is not known. Probably a singularity, but there is actually some debate on that; it may not have been quite so dense.

It's called clown range for a reason.

My buddy went on as a guest with Lars once and got totally destroyed. It was so bad his mom called in the next day and disowned him. It was funny because he was a huge Lars fan before that happened. It is always good to bring up for a good laugh at his expense. :)

Lars is quite the debater and loves it!

He’s great at trapping the most confident and getting them turned around and lost but when things go the other way can hit the disconnect button...lol

If music is not my gig for the day traveling to PDX I tune in on 101.1 ( Vancamp show is the best though...those guys rock!).

The whole "before" part renders the question probably meaningless, since a singularity comprising the entire mass (and mass that is now energy) of the universe would so dense and massive that time as we know it would not exist.

Time is most likely a reflection of entropy. It’s not some flowing, aetheric fabric that we exist within.

And yes it would exist mathematically (albeit immeasurably as an infinite series of potentials) so long as the singularly exists.

If it even was a singularity? I’m not sure that’s settled.

He is the master at framing an argument toward his biases.

My preferences can beat up your preferences’ dad.

The expansion is ongoing. The big bang theorizes how it started.

In my opinion, it's human nature to inject more certainty into the unknown than is warranted. And science is hardly immune to that.

What people forget is that no matter how "stupid" a talk show host sounds, they make their living talking and arguing. You are not going to beat them at their own game.

Excited for the upcoming cold period. There’s always something great about the first chilly east wind that comes through the Gorge.

Any maps about how this next cold snap is going to affect the valley? Seems like a Washington-based event.

Probably another universe which had collapsed back into a singularity. Everything in the universe is conserved (at least on the level of energy flow) and everything is a cycle...both of those things apply to the existence of the universe itself....

Just looking at some of the snowfall numbers from last weekend's cold wave. The Pullman, WA COOP station recorded their first measurable September snowfall since obs began in 1940, with 1.0" - previous earliest measurable snowfall was three weeks later into the season (10/19/1996)!

Eventually all things merge into one. And a river runs through it.

Such a beautiful tale.

Another possibility is that things are only conserved within the confines of this particular universe, and we're not meant (or equipped) to understand how things work outside of it. Sort of like an ant isn't meant or equipped to understand stock market fluctuations, or whatever.

Exactly, this one is good to think about too. Ever read the book "Flatlanders"?
