Anyways, I’m liking the trends towards chilly. GEM looks excellent, and I daresay the GFS is chilly towards hour 180 (right after the front comes through this Tuesday). I’m hoping for us all to score this winter!

Considering the the last few pages of hyperbolic frothing at the mouth of the younger generation I figured y'all would have been separated from it longer instead of remembering what it was like when you parents were freaking out about the trenchcoat mafia or evolution in schools or whatever thing they freaked out about like when I was a kid. C’mon. I know I’m going to be called out for this, but you of all people should know that this is just uncalled for, even when discussing politics. There are people that say this very thing about people who are right-leaning, and I think we should just learn to work together. There are asses on both sides, and someone’s political leaning should not be the warrant to say that they hate their country.

 

Anyways, back to weather. I am hoping the EURO follows suit with some chillier stuff. Backdoor blasts seem great for PDX, but a good traditional arctic blast would make everyone on this forum happy I think (even Tim!).

The WRF has gotten pretty darn nippy for the middle of next week.  It's showing upper 40s to low 50s for highs in the Puget Sound area on Wednesday and an extensive area of near freezing low temps on Thursday morning.  Looks colder than it did for the recent trough.

It really is pretty promising historically to see these continental airmasses cutting through early and often.

 

Midwinter may very well still suck but the upper level progression is a very good sign for continued early season action (pre-12/21) as the fall season progresses.

I don't think the politicians like Cumo or whoever really hate America. He's just playing to his audience. 

 

Many in academia do. But it is important for them to break down our history so they can advance their ideology. They may grow to hate it or think they do, but they are just serving their interests and using the flavor of the month to do so. You see it a lot in places like post revolutionary Cuba, Zimbabwe, etc...

The ECMWF is solidly cold now.  850s drop solidly below zero and it indicates the classic Arctic outbreak surface pressure signature as well.  This looks like another abnormally cold airmass for this early.

I pretty much agree.  We have seen early cold snaps like this before and they normally lead to good stuff before New Years.  Years like 1971 - 72 delivered big time in January also, so mid winter is up in the air IMO.

Well, if the forecast cold blast the coming week materializes, I have another shot (and a fairly good one, I'd say) at getting frost. First, outflow winds that wouldn't quit overnight and next, clouds that moved in denied me that this week. Nights are only getting longer, after all, and I made it down to 37˚F twice already.
