That’s axle-breaking horsepower...

Last summer with 125 less hp it ran 8.82@159 in the 1/4. Pretty fun to drive it to the track and smoke some Honda's!

12Z ECMWF showing some warm temps on Thursday and Friday now... probably low to mid 60s and sunny for many places as offshore flow picks up.

I am quite thankful for the roof over my head and food in my pantry. I am also thankful for my relative health. But I also know that the time change has a very negative impact on me and many of my friends and co-workers. It takes me a good 2 weeks to recover, and I have tried many different things to overcome it.

 

I am assuming by your attitude that it does not affect you. You are lucky. Many of us are not so lucky.

 

Another thing I am thankful for is living in a free country where you can tell me to get bent and I can turn around and tell you to get bent and blow it out your millennial a$$!

 

Doing away with the time change cannot come soon enough for me.

 

A co-worker posed an interesting question....what if we as a state decided to do away with the time change without waiting for the federal law? I know the answer is that the lawyers and courts would get all spun up...but its still a fun "what if"

The winter solstice sunset is only 30 minutes later here versus Seattle. It’s a bit depressing at first, I guess, but that’s part of winter. It’s cold and dark.

I’m the other way around. Much prefer daylight savings since there’s more evening daylight. I have a small amount of SAD syndrome, I guess. It is what it is.

Very nice work!  I have a 1970 Mustang with a 383 stroker Windsor (Ford EEC-IV injected) and Tremec 5-speed that I built about 15 years ago.  I thought it was fast, but it makes less than half the horsepower yours does.

 

I assume getting that 1,054 hp requires a big shot of nitrous?

 

Hey, I bet between us we know as many obscure car-related terms as Phil does weather-related ones!

No nitrous just a ton of boost from the super charger. 28lbs.

Yeah I actually agree with this. When someone says "fall back" time favors business, the sun is actually setting an hour earlier in the summer, it's a little contradicting. So if we stay in Standard Time all year, the sky will be pitch black at 8pm in July, not 9pm. And sun will be rising at like 4am or something.

Hasn't rained here in any significant amount in over 10 days, and the latest GFS shows 10 more days without rain.

 

Remember, it rains every day all the time in this climate from October to May and there's no sun ever in those months.

Watch come mid-winter when the cascades start getting dumped on with snow, that map will change its tune. And then come April the news will be pushing drought agenda again. Never ending cycle.

It's because the hour goes forward so your usual sleep gets undercut by that. I really feel this. Lighting doesn't do it for me it's all about the sleep.

Definitely true in the automotive repair world. I know good technician's that are older that did not learn the computers in the cars as that technology progressed and now they have no idea how to fix anything new if has and electrical issue outside of a starter or alternator. Sad but true fact and you d**n near need to be a scientist to work on some of this stuff. Luckily I started doing this as a profession in 1990 so it was interesting to me to learn as it all evolved. Today some of these cars have 10 computers that all talk to each other through a system called can bus and it can be tough to diagnose problems but this is just a good example of change and people have withered from it..

Ahhh Canbus....I am a VW guy, so very familiar with CANBUS.  I have VAGCOM software so that I can do a lot of my own diagnostics.  I can't remember the module count on my TDI  Sportwagen,but I know that each door has its own control module.  Fortunately I was able to use the $150 VAGCOM software to diagnose and save me several hundred dollars at the mechanic.  Probably not what you want to hear but I think people like me are few and far between.  Even I have my limits, I think my rear main seal is leaking on the Pilot, and I'm not touching that (unless I find a slick way to do it that does not involve completely removing the transmission).  I think I am looking at a minimum of $800 on that repair.

I did not post an opinion on it... but it is notable for November.

 

I will say that the sun has been very enjoyable here this weekend. Perfectly comfortable in shorts and a t-shirt doing some yardwork. No wind at all.

True enough....There are some people even at this latitude that are not bothered by it, but unfortunately I am not one of them.  I was not bothered by it nearly as much when I was younger.  I think that a lot of my sensitivity is that I am somewhat of a "power sleeper"  I only need 4-5 hours of sleep a night.  if I go to bed earlier I just wake up after 4-5 hours and can't go back to sleep.  But if that 4-5 hours gets messed with, then I am a trainwreck.

Things like that are why, when I ran a bunch of servers on the Internet, I set all their time zones to UTC. If time of day is not a monotonically increasing function, all sorts of software headaches inevitably result.

Just to clarify... that was not my forecast. I was just reporting what the ECMWF was showing. It also showed Thursday and Friday of this coming week as being very wet... now those days looks warm and sunny.

 

Rain keeps getting pushed back and weakened in the models. Blocking working in our favor now. Not always the case this year.

Bad idea IMO.  This far north you end up with a huge problem of getting light VERY late in the morning during the winter.  It makes it hard for some people (like me) to get up in the morning.

 

It's why my personal term for standard time is "the real daylight-saving time." Standard time means more daylight precisely when I need it the most: in the morning, during that part of the year when days are shortest.

It's been like 60 degrees in the afternoon the last few days. Doesn't ski season usually not really get going until late November anyway?

Today definitely seems a little more inversiony so far. Hazy sunshine and 52 currently. At this point yesterday (accounting for time change) it was already approaching 60.

 

Would be nice to really get into the soup tomorrow. Just for something different.
