Kind of a 1968-69 look.  Looks as if SSW's can make a Nino work in our favor.

Been telling my wife since September that I think this January is when the PNW will finally get the good stuff. We've been getting robbed of a good widespread January snow event for too many years. THIS WILL BE THE YEAR THAT IT CHANGES!!

I always think of those times when I am putting up the lights that now my kids are helping me with!
 

Just saw this.  I feel so bad for you.  I know what a terrible feeling it is to lose a parent.  No doubt there is some comfort in knowing they aren't suffering anymore.

It's highly unlikely anything remotely close to 1968/69 will verify. Also, the run does not show cold on the level of 1968/69.

If this was a La Niña I would complain about not enough snow for WW El Niño I’ll take anything.

I was mostly commenting on the fact the -NAO strongly plays into the pattern being shown like it did that winter.  Being real...just half as good as that winter would still be great.

Way too early to worry about the details on snow distribution yet.  I will say that El Nino winters do favor areas to the south of us to some extent in cold setups.

The 00z GFS tonight improved greatly after Day 7 upstream over the Gulf of Alaska. The Canadian shows some promise too. Hmmm....

Honestly I'm slightly disappointed with the snow totals on this run, great cold setup but then we get blocked from any precip. We need thst high to move a bit west and let us get some BC sliders. I'm sure there will be better runs coming, this run is just a big step in the right direction.

The Canadian is certainly in the same ballpark, as was the 12z.

Looks like another 5 in October in North Bend... so 16 for the season so far.   Not as big of a difference as I thought given how persistent the east wind has been up here and how strangely absent its been down there.

The general pattern shown on this run would bring some goodies for a lot of people on here.

Agreed.

The -NAO, which often develops as a result of a SSW, can play a big role in PNW cold but we also need the aid of a -PNA. This is why we can never rule out an arctic blast in the PNW, even during a strong El Niño, if there is a SSW event. That said, I'd still be surprised if we see an arctic pattern lock in for more than a few days this winter. But I could be wrong.
