April 2024 Weather in the PNW

Recommended Posts

Looks like the Euro/EPS have backed off the mega-ridge solution.

More in line with other guidance now (garden variety ridge that lasts several days to a week before folding over). I don’t think this particular situation warrants substantial concern ( @Cascadia_Wx).

In fact the 12z ECMWF has like 2 warmish days before its gets knocked down again. If anything it’s the cool departures that are the most anomalous (especially in the SW/Intermountain West).

Hoping for sustained warmth without any extremes... that is basically what the EPS is showing.

About 4” of snow when I measured and it had settled a bit when I did. Pushes me over 4’ for total seasonal snowfall.

Your seasonal total is right behind mine. How does that compare to your average?

Figures now that the CMC has flipped to a warmer solution.

Euro looks cooler than average for most the PNW over the next 10 days.

Average is about 35” here so fairly above average this year. Interestingly, all but 1” fell after January 5th.

FWIW I didn’t even see graupel today. Just a gusty rain shower sandwiched between periods of sunshine.

Figured this somewhat chilly but fairly dry pattern would have a good chance at producing some frosty nights.

Cooler than expected today. PDX was suppose to hit 52 but looks like they won’t make it out of the 40s. Some spots already into the 30s. Gonna be some icy spots tomorrow morning. 🧊 🥶

Sunbreaks over the next hour or two could easily push them above 50. 4:30pm is pretty early to declare the high for the day in April.

Nice. I was going to say the view looked a bit different. I briefly went to Canyonlands once but have explored Arches, Bryce, and Zion a lot more.

Looks like my high held, so an impressive 47/37 day here. Lots of light to moderate stratiform wrap around precip transitioning to heavier, more convective showers moving in from the NNW later on. Had a pretty intense hail shower around 4 that turned the ground white and dropped the temp to 42. Some sunbreaks now as the sun lowers to the west with a current temp of 44.

Looks like PDX finished at 49. Will likely be the last high in the 40s until October.

Kinda neat to go from upper 70s to upper 40s in just two days. I’d imagine that probably hasn’t happened too often.
