November 15-17th Snow Prospects

The radar sure looks good coming out of eastern Nebraska. I hope you guys are getting good ratios to make up for the snow lost to the dry air.

Some of these models are laughable - like this one!

Southern Iowa looks to do pretty well this afternoon, just by reading the radar.

The southern half of Iowa looks the best area to see the heaviest accumulation. Seems the models are going to bust on the position of the heaviest accumulations.

What a joke so far! Probably not even 1/2" and it's pretty much done. Didn't even come down hard enough to stick on the roads. Mainly pixie dust. We'll see what happens with this supposed 2nd wave. Not sure why any model is showing that much snow...

This really must have been hit and miss! For the most part our ground is completely covered, and this round two that will swing thru maybe will drop 1-2" additional. Must have really died out as it moved off to my east. Usually I receive the same amount as Omaha does.

Nice pictures Gabel! I hope to awake to something like that tomorrow morning. Just wondering are those Oak trees in your neighbors yard? Otherwise those are really late trees to be holding leaves.

Forecast is still holding steady.

Thanks Geo! They are oak trees, that neighbor has two of them and my neighbor to the south, which would be to the left by the swing set, also has a big oak tree. Needless to say I still will have to find time to rake those leaves up when they all finally fall off!

Looks like winter in your back yard Gabel!  Hoping our area can score something similar tonight.  Gauging at the radar, the heaviest band of snow over N MO/S IA is headed right for N IL.  Might cash in a 1" or so...this system ended up being a nowcast event which is usually the case with these open wave systems.  Looks like the heavier precip is south of where the models took them over the last 2 days.

Well this was a non event and long ranger looks meh for now around here with a warm up. Hope these misses to the north don't become a common theme this year. Enjoy it guys!

I wouldn't be too worried.  I am sure once there is a major winter storm it will miss us to the south like it always does.  Don't feel bad about missing a 1-3 event in November.

I've seen quite a few 4-6" reports in southern SoDak and along the Nebraska border which is where the models had a heavier band

Hearing the ground is whitening up in the Quad Cities quickly. Looks like this system has a little more moisture to work with on the south side.

Looks like the system is heading due east now...

Yup, seems like the wave isn't as robust on the northern fringe...looks like the I-80 corridor will get the brunt of the moisture in our area.  Some 25-30 dbz's showing up in W IL...I was just out at the stores shopping for Christmas lights and window insulation and they had Christmas carol's playing...with the light snow coming tonight it def puts you in a good mood!

Snow only 60 miles away or so now. Atmosphere seemed to saturate rather quickly over the Rock River Valley.

Put up the Christmas lights that are the most challenge today. If there is snow on the roof next weekend, then I can still put up the rest without climbing up there.

Edit: Reports of snow coming down in the western suburbs now.

@Meichel - Snowing at Burlington, WI, so it should not be long now. Nice band setting up near the state line.

-SN started here about 6:15. Flake size picked up rather quickly after the start.

Edit: Flake size varying a bit as the dry air isn't quite out of here yet.

1-2.5" amounts coming out of eastern IA.

0.1" down here. Dendrites slowly getting bigger.

Wish that band to the north was about 15 miles further south...

Very surprised the snow is coming down as hard as it is right now.  Nice bigger sized fluffy flakes with temps in the upper 20's...looks like the I-80/I-90 corridor is getting the brunt of this first wave.  N Cook/N DuPage getting some good DBZ's right now.

Hoping what is out by Rockford will head straight east as the evening goes on. Looks like borderline +SN out there.

Things turning white quickly here.
