Cloud
https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2020/07/200717101026.htm The impact of weather data accuracies due to the lack of commercial airlines during the pandemic. Article was written in July 2020 but I’d imagine not much has changed since. Worth a discussion as I've seen some people wrongly complained how the models have not improved. “A new study in AGU's journal Geophysical Research Letters finds the world lost 50-75% of its aircraft weather observations between March and May of this year” ”He found surface pressure and wind speed forecasts were unaffected in the short term (1-3 days) but were less accurate for the longer-term (4-8 days) forecasts included in the study.” Absolutely amazing study really. The forecasts are less impactful to day the least when summer weather is boring here for the region. But during the fall/winter, it is way more complex. We are definitely seeing the impact of less commercial airlines data in the 4-8 days range for the models. Have been all fall and winter. 4
