I like these trends too lol. GFS now has 3 winter storms in 9 days here. Keeping that massive, suppressive blob of cold air west of the Mississippi = more baroclinicity for storm development.

What a run !!!! Remember, SHOULD this pattern be correct as the Ensembles now agree with once that low level cold becomes established with the very strong east winds it will stick around awhile perhaps 5+ days. Then we look for systems to move in from the west-southwest. You could NOT ask for anything better at anytime in the Winter. C'MON!!!!

Looking at The Dalles ensembles shows there is still perhaps room for colder runs ahead as there is a big cluster of members from -14c to -20c. C'MON!!!!

The key is the Alaskan vortex. The GEM keeps it together and strengthens as it moves into Alaska, if that happens it's game over for us other than some brief chilly backdoor action. The GFS weakens it and allows the Alaskan and Greenland ridges to connect which allows cold air to dig back over us in the mid range.

Exactly..., that is what I was saying earlier.    A weaker version (as its been trending) yields much colder and snowier results by later next week.
