Not really, each point is networked with the adjoining points. Surface modeling, all be it this isnt really modelling, was factored on what ERA5 said, what initialization said, and then ran from there. For GraphCast, the resolution is only determined on the inference output, I dont know if that is different or not for the AIFS or others, but it would make sense that if you are outputting 1º spacing then you want your base to be at 1º.

I know it can be done, but I have not worked in an office environment since March 2020, and have very much gotten used to the work life balance working from home affords. And even when I was working in an office, I had a 7 minute commute. 10 if I caught the red light. I did the commute thing in Atlanta, and swore I would never do that again. Heck, even when I lived in Oregon, I had about a 25 minute commute but very minimal congestion. I lived right off Hwy 20 and I-5 in Albany, would take the 5 down to Hwy 34, and when I got into Corvallis I would head down 9th to my office near the LBCC campus. Not sure how long ago your uncle did that, but now, even when the freeway is moving at freeway speeds, its very congested. There is also the matter of me selling my car that got 40-50+MPG and replacing it with a Subaru that gets about 25MPG and runs on premium.
