D10-15 EPS continues the retrogression signal, and remains amplified across the NPAC. Not seeing much zonal flow on the individual members, rather they're just differently-timed retrogressions and re-amplifications .

Some members do indeed have an Arctic blast around Rob's December 20-23rd timeframe. I'd estimate around 15%.

12:52 PM Columbia Basin cold pool update
The cold pool is flexing its muscles today as it strengthens from roughly the central Gorge eastward throughout the Columbia Basin where temps are still stuck in the upper 20s to low 30s. Temperatures compared to 24 hours ago many locations in Gresham, Troutdale, and throughout the Gorge are running 4 to as much as 11 degrees colder than yesterday. Additionally the cold air has thickened up above the Gorge as Three Corner Rock(3450') and Augspurger(2990' across from Hood River) are staying cold in the mid 20's which is down 5 degrees from yesterday.

Let's keep our fingers crossed for a pre-Christmas Arctic blast with snow.

Up to 52 now.

Cold air is definitely deeper at Snoqualmie. Currently 28 at Hyak. 25 at Stampede.

Oh yeah easily here too near west Gresham. Tonight will be wild and I have decent confidence we see high winds east of I-205/Western Gorge as the gradients are running stronger than modeled and inversion continues to slowly lower..

I already had trouble falling asleep last night. East facing bedroom window with a line drive from the gorge for those winds.

The 12z EPS shows a pretty decent probability (30-50%) of a pretty large swath of the Northern CONUS entering a very cold pattern on the 22nd with 850mb temps at or below -10C.

You still thinking it's a week early?

Here was my prediction from my Facebook WX group back in late November

I'm thinking 20th - 23rd

We have a long, long ways to go, but you do have to start somewhere and the 12z EURO Op, EPS was a great step in the right direction to do just that. The Godzilla weeklies look great too

I do think it's being rushed, but I've been slow-biased with pattern changes in the past. We'll see!

Hey I used to live there!

Is your old house visible in that shot, or you're just saying you lived in the town?

BTW, I was wrong about this trough split. Thought it was just the ECMWF's bias at work, but it's actually verifying for once.

Do we even bother with the 18z? Yes/No ?

The good news has to start somewhere.

Today would be THE day to visit just about any town on the OR or WA coast.  A strong "Riviera Effect," with sunshine, easterly flow and relatively low humidity, covered the entire coastline today.  Temps are in the low 60s along the northern Oregon coast, and upper 50s as far north as Black Knob on the southwest side of the Olympics.

Tropica Tidbits says no.  Stuck on hour 150.  Working on Pivotal.

In other news, the Canadian model is finally out.  Breaks the pattern down, sort of, but nothing exciting.  The flat ridge to the West the other models have is further north, so we still stay dry.

Also, the JAMA was starting to look interesting at hour 192, as far as it goes, and the GFS 18Z looks very similar at about the same hour
