Here is was dead calm this morning. I imagine this will be a rinse and repeat cycle until the ridge breaks down and lets an onshore flow back in.

as of 10 AM PDX-DLS now nearing -12mb, stronger than modeled and showing no signs of weakening.

For what it's worth, I think way too much is being made of the Kona low. It's a resultant piece of a large puzzle during blocking patterns.

Yeah Buckley about 7 miles east from me was in the low 40’s this morning with brisk east winds and I was in the upper 20’s and heavy frost. Love these micro-climates

16 this morning and currently it’s 23. Pretty impressive to be at or below freezing for 18 hours a day without fog under this ridge.

Hard for me to imagine how surface temps in Idaho and Montana would be above normal with those height anomalies.

By day 10 the high flattens out a bit and lower heights spread towards SE AK.

Pretty crazy that PDX will hit 50 for three consecutive days with raging east winds. That’s unusual for December.

Yeah, it's a classic piece of the puzzle that occurs as the result of blocking being 145W to 160W, basically. But it's often mis-identified as any low pressure area in the general region north of Hawaii.

I bet if it went out another day the goa low would move east and heights would build into the west Alaska,

One potential trend we are seeing is that the overall pattern stays blocky even after the western ridge breaks down. That can’t be a bad sign.
