You must mean Baby backs and nachos. 32.4F here now after a high of 35 at 12:30am.

Impressive how fast the chill came back after that brief warmup.  I have certainly seen many warmer winters than this has been so far.

This spot here is where i will start building my home next summer. Right in the middle of 160 acres. I did tons of research in this area before i purchased more land. There are many micro climates up here and snow depth varies a bunch and not with elevation so much. This spot is 3 miles away as the crow flies from my 20 acre piece with the little cabin and there is always more snow on the big property. On average about 30 to 40% more snow than the cabin. Big property is 3800 and cabin is 3550. There is 16 at cabin and 23 at big property and at one time last year there was 20 at cabin and 43 at big property!! To say I'm excited to get over there full time is a understatement.

Here I thought this wouldn't be a fogversion and it is proving to be just that so far.  Fog never left just to the east of me today and it's already creeping back in.

Back down to freezing here as well, got out and blew off the driveway debris from the windstorm before it freezes up again.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Incredibly beautiful area!  The microclimates over there are insane.  I know in the Twisp area there are situations where one mountain has trees on it and the next one over is just sage brush.  It certainly pays to do your homework.  I'm envious of how well you have planned for your big move and how much property you have been able to acquire.  More ambitious than me!

As a matter of fact my December numbers show an average of 34.6F which is the coldest December I've recorded over the past 25 years!  It sure won't be remembered as a notable wintry month but the fake cold did it's job.

The lakes are primed to ice over big time if we can ever manage to get a good arctic outbreak in here!

This is in the Twisp area?  You will need to have large picture windows with that kind of scenery.

It's been kind of a fake cold / real cold hybrid.  No doubt we have gotten some Arctic seepage on a few occasions.  I'm surprised you ended up colder than 2008.  I ended up at 37.3 which is one of my colder ones, but 2008 came in at 35.2.  At any rate this sets up the possibility of a really cold winter average if the real cold comes later on.

I just looked and December 2008 came in at 34.6F as well, but with 34" of snow!

The 18z ensembles are pretty decent.  6 members go below -8 at some point which is nearly 1/3 of the ensemble members.  The operational and control both drop to -6 or -7 with the possible cold snap late next week.  The control then drops to -8 a bit after that.

The lake just down the road from cabin is 8 inches thick Ice. Safe to drive on but i didn't.

D**n I want to move over there!  I'm still hopeful it will happen, but I won't end up in an area quite as good as what you're shooting for.  The north half of Central and Eastern WA have real winters to say the least.

You can't do much better than that for cold in WA.  I'm sure they pull off some -30s from time to time.  I know there has been a lot of cold seepage up there this winter.

What’s your location. ? We are running almost 4F warmer than last December here.

A few miles SE of Arlington in a protected area with a north to northeast exposure.  Very good for holding onto cold.  Last December I averaged 35F so just about the same as this year.

You can do it Jim.

I think I can.  We have good equity in our house now.

As for you....you should look into being an official observer for that area.  I see the two stations that have existed near Chesaw have both been discontinued for decades.  That would be a great area to keep track of.

Flint has been on a roll in the WPAC warm pool/NPAC ridge era. Tied their all-time record low with -25 in the Feb 2015 cold wave, set the March record with -16 on 3/3/2014, just broke the December record with -18, and also hit -21 in the infamous "polar vortex" cold wave in Jan 2014.

A poor winter like this will often lead to a lousy spring and summer. Essentially 8 months of the same, extended weather.

Except August of course. It will still torch.

Exactly. Except for maybe August which can go either way. We can definitely be so completely hosed this spring and probably summer.  Ugh.....
