January Weather In the PNW

Recommended Posts

Clouds are keeping the temperature rise in check today. Up to 54.

Also... that is the probably about as warm as it can get today.   Its not supposed to be the 60s just randomly in January.   ;)]

Its been mostly sunny all afternoon at SEA and still is sunny and its 55 there now.

I came here to view druncle analysis. I suppose I'll actually have to view them myself.

18Z run is farther north and warmer with the mid week system compared to the 12Z GFS.

That is more like the 12Z ECMWF which did not show much potential at all.

Been more partly sunny around here today.

Thank you. I still blame this wasted dud of a winter on your jinx a** snowblower. Maybe it can still be returned?

Check out the insane Eurasian meridional dipole anomaly modeled for week two. Wow!

Classic precursor to a west-Pacific jet extension and possibly an Alaska wavebreak response.

The jet will extend towards the very end of January, and then watch early February for a (possible) Alaska wavebreak, as things currently stand.

I was thinking that yesterday... although the one time that we did use it was on Christmas morning so it did not feel jinxed then!

My brain is saying no, but I have this nagging feeling in my gut which says that, as the WPAC jet extends eastward (Eurasia adding AAM) and slams into that mass load/antecedent dirty ridge near the Aleutians, the added momentum flux will amplify that little innocuous “dirty” Aleutian anticyclone into something much more..perhaps an Alaskan wavebreak, and that it will make things interesting in early February.

I don’t know. This scenario just keeps popping into my head for some reason.

A few snow chances on the 18. Pretty good to see really. This is out ten days. I have seen much worse runs.

Not really that exciting. Clown range shows some carrots but I'm going to second guess it for now.

Anything above a 44.5 at PDX would beat top 5 warmest (1992).

They are at 44.7 right now, so if January ended today it would be #5. That will likely be coming down the next two weeks, but probably pretty slowly at first. I can envision some 48/40 type days scattered in there even through the end of this week.

I like the 18z and I'm not sure how anyone could be disheartened by it, besides this weekend's possibilities which have always looked borderline.

I'm starting to think people on here don't get excited unless models show 5+ inches and mid-20s for temps. Anything less seems to be deemed a waste of our time.

I for one am very much looking forward to the upcoming Nina pattern... low snow levels, gobs of mountain snow, fairly active weather... Any of that beats the god awful first half of January we just went through.

I'll be excited when I can move to Bend. This location sucks.
