SilverFallsAndrew
Raining and windy here this morning in Whistler Village... 37 degrees. Most of the mountain is closed right now due to wind. Front is moving quickly though... and it will start improving this afternoon. The next 3 days look very nice with lots of sun and cooler weather. Anxious to get back to skiing. 41 with "heavy drizzle" (To borrow one of your terms.), this morning. The baby and wife appear to be hibernating this morning. Most Americans are resigned to the fact that we always lose when it comes to playing Canada in men's hockey, it's like Clemson going on the road to UNC in basketball, they are like 0-59 in Chapel Hill. Might be one of the reasons ratings are down amongst numerous others. Brian_in_Leavenworth
The athletes were housed in a medium security prison in Lake Placid. And Denver backed out of hosting the ‘76 games 2 years after winning the bid.We were in Lake Placid a couple of months ago. Such a small village for an Olympic Venue, there was definitely no room to house the athletes there. Still, way more charm then the big cities, and in a way, it is too bad that they can't have the Winter Olympics in places like that anymore. These days they are for the wealthy people only it seems. Interesting fact about the Placid games: There was only one celebrity at the famous "Miracle On Ice" game (Jamie Farr from MASH, who was pretty famous at the time). These days a game like that would be full of the rich and famous, and people like us would be shut out. It was pretty cool to have the Olympics so close to home though (I was in Bellingham at the time).

Might be one of the reasons ratings are down amongst numerous others. A few other reasons. Winter sports really are not all that popular, and generally only accessed by people towards the upper end of the income scale. Whereas people who watch more TV are generally on the lower end when it comes to income. So your typical TV viewer does not care about and has never participated in winter sports. Also our nation has much less national pride as in years past, for a variety of reasons... 1 Quote Snowfall Precip 2022-23: 95.0" 2022-23: 17.39" 2021-22: 52.6" 2021-22: 91.46" 2020-21: 12.0" 2020-21: 71.59" 2019-20: 23.5" 2019-20: 58.54" 2018-19: 63.5" 2018-19: 66.33" 2017-18: 30.3" 2017-18: 59.83" 2016-17: 49.2" 2016-17: 97.58" 2015-16: 11.75" 2015-16: 68.67" 2014-15: 3.5" 2013-14: 11.75" 2013-14: 62.30 2012-13: 16.75" 2012-13: 78.45 2011-12: 98.5" 2011-12: 92.67" It's always sunny at Winters Hill! Brian_in_Leavenworth
Yeah... Andrew is definitely wrong. He must be ornery this morning. Sarajevo and Sochi and Lake Placid on the list but not Vancouver. https://athlonsports.com/olympics/five-worst-winter-olympic-host-cities-all-time Lake Placid also had a problem with transportation, IIRC. Great village, but logistical issues.
stuffradio
I didn't watch one minute of coverage of that Olympics. Always been more into the summer games since they have actual sports. I did watch the ones in Korea. They had to make their snow of course, but at least it was actually cold there. You didn't watch a minute of coverage, and stated your opinion based on nothing. Great. Someone from Seattle even said it was one of the best. https://www.seattletimes.com/opinion/vancouvers-2010-winter-olympics-were-well-done/It was so poorly done that we were almost going to be considered as an emergency replacement for some of the European winter Olympic events. ShawniganLake
I see we have our local pride going today! I'm sorry the Vancouver Olympics were amazing even though it was 50 degrees and the mountains had no snow.Haha. They were probably mediocre at best, certainly not the worst. I’m realistic. It’s kind of ironic, but if Vancouver had of experienced a winter storm during the olympics, it probably would have proved more problematic. Vancouver during a snowstorm = not good. It is all about human interest stories, global social causes, etc... I always joke that you know someone isn't a real sports fan if they are into the Olympics. Women love the Olympics. Back then, the Olympics were about sports, not about human interest stories, not about celebrities who were wanting to be seen on TV, etc. Celebrities did not go, because they did not care about sports. Sports fans went. Jamie Farr was a huge hockey fan, that is why he went. I wish the Olympics were like that now, just about sports.
ShawniganLake
Some sporadic power outages showing up in southern BC from the wind this morning. There were still about 800 customers in the dark on the gulf Islands from the storm back on the 20th.
HighlandExperience
Is this because Canada beat you in hockey? It's ok, let it all out. It was one of the best winter olympics in history.I agree it was actually one of the best in recent history despite the rough start. It ended up good and people loved Vancouver!

It used to be the largest display of amateur sport. Now it’s basically million dollar athletes competing for the next big endorsement deal. SilverFallsAndrew
The concept of amateur sports is pretty much dead. It's pretty much ruined college basketball and football too... Oh well, times change.
