I don’t put much stock in the track of low pressure centers beyond about 72hrs in the models. Give it a couple more days.

I don’t know guys...I’m just not feeling it, only because Frontal Snowsquall hasn’t been nearly excited so far this season as past seasons. I don’t think he (or she) has even posted a single fist pumping GIF yet.

There's just been nothing to get excited about yet. Usually we'll see some great runs from the GFS to get us excited but other than a stray good run here or there, there hasn't been one run that brings a fully loaded Arctic Blast to get people pumped up.

 

With that being said, it's only early January. Over half of the snowy Arctic Blast I've experienced since living in the PNW have been in February. Last year I even gave up and said stick a fork in it but then we got the modified Arctic Blast in February. Never say never.

It was "modified". I believe 850mb temps got down to -11C down here in Salem. For mid-late February that's noteworthy.

Silver Falls had a 31/16 day on the 23rd. That would speak to an airmass below -10C in order to pull that off, that late in February.

Not saying much, but I think it was our coldest upper level event since February 2014. A hair colder than anything in 2016-17, even.
