April 2019 Weather Discussion in the PNW

This is an excellent point.

Sometimes your points are very wrong and not excellent, though.

One is more about aesthetics and the other is weather.

Not sure they’re comparable. A place can have dreary weather and have beautiful scenery..IE Hippa Island.

This seems to be the case for lots of people here.

The fact you’re aware of it gives you an advantage over folks like Mossman and Tim, who are apparently still living in denial over the abnormality of the 2013-18 summers. They might go into instantaneous hypothermia when the next strong multiyear niña rolls around.

Sounds like you're talking about some plebs!

I really liked 2016. The one summer in the past five years that wasn't a torching smokebox.

Tim had a panic attack that July. Was too cold for him.

No... western WA is way more sunny than many European cities.

July 2016 was pretty nice.

All I remember is that someone was very unhappy and after a certain 12z ECMWF run went off on a tangent about how gloomy the summer had become. If it wasn’t you I don’t know who it could have been.

For some reason I remember that specifically.

Neither of these things are factually correct. Phil was actually the one having epic debates with Tim.

Flatironing?

No, it all happened. We three had our own thread to debate because it was clogging the main thread.

In the end Tim and I both came in near last place in the forecast contest. You were down there with us.

Lots of epic debates between him and Flatiron that month.

No.   That was being Phil and I.

He wanted desperately to prove how cold it was across the "region"... but it was pretty nice here.   Both were realities.   That included the baggy trough discussion too.

No, that thread was actually created for you and Tim. Question my memory at your own peril.  ;)

We’re gonna rehash this whole thing, aren’t we? I made a regional forecast. So that’s how I verified it.

And you said July would blowtorch. Oops.

My God... how do you remember such specific musings from a specific day??

You constantly b*tch about your weather in the warm season... even its perfectly normal... and I don't remember any of the details.   Just that you use very dramatic language and it never ends.

You were more than a willing participant in that thread.

And dude, every time we have one of these battles of spontaneous recollection, I kick your arse. I don’t fear a battle of wits with you, no offense.

I remember the most random s**t. On the most random of days. I can’t explain it. Even back to my toddler years.

Might be worth noting that before that, there was a 6 year stretch with only one regionally hot summer (2007-2012).

So maybe things are about ready to switch again.

Who knows? Literally almost every meteorologist and weather fan in the PNW thought that 2017-18 would be a cold and snowy winter like 16-17.

Of course, it wasn't even close. We can try to predict in the long run all we want, but it's not super accurate.

The benefits of LSD and mushrooms are often underestimated.

I guess we all have our quirks.

For me it’s relentless shrooming. For you it’s relentless flatironing.

Nice evening. Mowed a little, threw the clippings to the sheep and they loved them.

First "nice" day of the year over by Klamath Falls. Other than a few midges on the overpass I had a nice time out. High today 67.

NWS AFD mentioning possible Friday and Saturday t'storms east side. So I may get one the day before I board Amtrak, and may miss one getting off at PDX the next afternoon. Ain't that something.

Much like with politics, there is a double standard on here. And it is obvious the rainy/cool(normal weather) fans are the ones who are held to it.

I like a bit of my mid Spring rain, but I won't go out and scream at the sky if it's 80 and clear out. :P

That must have been a year to talk about (everyone talks about Jan 1993).. Just about every March since then consisted of no frozen bodies of water down here. Weather quite quickly gets mild as winter transitions to spring.

I don't even think Lake Ewuana ever stayed frozen in March since I moved here and it's a much smaller lake.

My wife was 4 years old that year, but has a lot of memories of all the snow and then the big 6.1 quake.

It was an absolutely amazing winter down there. Probably will never see one like it again in any place I live. I remember shoveling snow the end of February into March. My deck didn't completely melt until the middle of April. Started snowing in December and didn't stop until March. Was so, so done with it since I shoveled at home and then had to shovel at work.  :P
