Good morning. It was a wet weekend and more rain is on the way. This has been a wet October here at Grand Rapids and just to the north of GR there have been reports of well over 8” of rain. 8.87” at Reemas, 8.55” at Mears, 8.52” at Shelby and 8.04” at Grant. At Grand Rapids the official amount so far is at 6.00” But just 2 years ago Grand Rapids had 9.69” of rain in October and that Halloween there was 0.4” of snow fall in the morning. That brings me to let everyone know that snow in October and November dose NOT mean we will get a lot of snow for the upcoming winter season (for the most part) as I stated in October 2017 GRR had 0.4” of snow in October but that November only had 0.2” of snow and while December did have 32.9” of snow it did melt between snow falls. January 2018 GR only had 12.6” there was more but still not a lot in February with 20.7” and only 4.9” in March.

 

The H/L at Grand Rapids yesterday was 55/39. While I got down to 34 at my house overnight with some frost the official low at GRR was just 38. For today the average H/L is 56/38. The record high is 74 in 1989 and the record low is 23 set in 1969. Last year the H/L was 48/36.

Absolutely splendid outside. Type of day where ya don't wanna be inside at all. Temp at 63F.

We have rain coming in. Slow but sure....misting right now.

We expect perhaps an inch at most between now and tomorrow noon

Nice winter-like rain.

Looks like by weeks end, temps will be dropping into the 20s for lows and highs remaining in the low 40s. Scattered flurries and or snowshowers will be possible throughout the day and through the weekend. Cold air will have staying power into the following week.

Yesterday the official H/L at Grand Rapids was 59/38 here at my house it was a little cooler with a high of 56. For today the average H/L is 55/38. The record high is 77 way back in 1901 and the record low is 20 set in 1969. Last year the H/L was 54/36.

Well...we jammed spring, summer, and fall into 6 months!

 

6th shortest streak on record between 1 inch or more snowfalls at Madison this year...April 27th to October 28th.

It feels nice outside. Temps in the mid 50s under mostly cloudy skies and a tad breezy. Winds will be picking up as the system arrives from the west. Rain on the way also ending as a brief period of snow Friday morning. No accumulations expected.

The 2 I bolded were stronger Nino's and went on to be below normal for the season. All the others went on to be good to great snowfall winters with the possible exception of 92-93. I wasn't down here during that winter, so I can't go by memory. That was the winter following the "non summer" and I do remember snow starting very early that autumn up in NMI where I was, just not 100% how it ended up by the next spring?

Its a mild one today. Attm, its 60F. Just stepped outside for a sec and felt very nice. A lot of clouds though and its breezy as well.

Snow has melted and fallen off of the trees, so the fall color has reappeared.  Much of the green grass has reappeared as well.

I am quite surprised that our snow is still covering the grass.  I would say we had about 1.5" yesterday afternoon.  Hoping for a couple inches overnight but trends haven't been looking the best as things keep getting pushed south.

Rise and Shine!  Just as I woke up around 3:30am, I went downstairs, checked the radar and can confirm it is snowing!  Seeing the first flakes of the season is always nice to see.  My area was put under a WWA for 1-3" of snow.

* WHAT...Wet snow expected, occasionally mixing with sleet. For
western portions of Cook County from O`Hare to Oak Lawn, total
snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches with up to 1 inch of slushy
accumulation to the east.

* WHERE...Cook County.

* WHEN...Through 10 AM CDT, with the period of highest snowfall
rates through 7 AM CDT.

* IMPACTS...Though accumulations are expected to be on primarily
grassy and elevated surfaces, periods of moderate to heavy
snow may result in slushy conditions on untreated roadways,
especially those that are less traveled. This may result in a
period of hazardous travel during the morning rush hour.
