Requiem
I find that hard to believe. Why though? The PDX airport is far better at getting high wind gusts than my location-- usually. My last major windstorm was in April 2017. I would figure the west hills probably get bigger winds than PDX pretty frequently. You must have had an east wind event with a gust over 44mph at some point in the last two years. You described the winds as “seriously intense” and “absolutely roaring” They were, but my area is really, really wind sheltered from the southerlies. So you can absolutely hear the wind roaring and whistling, but nothing much makes it to the surface (except 4/7/17 and 12/11/14). I might have to call foul on my original statement-- I probably had a gust of 45 or so during an east wind event. But still, pretty marginal. I will say that though I didn't do great in terms of snow last year, I did great in 2018 and (especially) 2017. So that's a benefit of living where I do. edit: Also, that thread brings back memories. Most memories are of Timmy and Sounder being excessively caustic towards me oh, how time flies! My station has never recorded a gust above 40mph. But it’s not really representative of what actually occurs during a storm here. It’s pretty difficult to get a sensor situated properly so it’s not blocked by trees or buildings. I know there is a station at the sports fields of the big fancy private school near me and it usually records higher gusts. But even they seem too low. The power usually goes out by the time the winds hit 45mph and the station stops reporting.
