East Dubzz Posted October 31, 2019 Report Share Posted October 31, 2019 The Canadian model was garbage the last couple days. It trended to a very positive, strung-out crap system with little precip in the cold sector (nothing in Iowa). The Canadian model is probably the one I pay attention to the least among the main ones. BrianJK Posted October 31, 2019 Report Share Posted October 31, 2019 gonna be honest, did not buy into the totals that the models were showing. However, with just a hair under 3" yesterday and 4" today - the 6-8" amounts actually came to fruition. Storm track will always deviate within a 50-75 mile range, but would be nice to see the model accuracy of the storm strength continue throughout this winter. Pretty crazy to see the trick-or-treaters walking around in this snow covered landscape. First time I ever had to shovel the walkway and doorstep for the kiddos. 5 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Neither the accumulating snow nor the high winds are happening. All the warm(er) models showing nothing accumulating here were correct. The SLP did NOT end up trekking north into Lk Huron and getting amped, but instead stayed progressing ENE-ward as there was not any kind of plunging cold air mass dropping in from the north to result in the scenario painted by some of the shorter range models. Just stale cold oozing east from the Plains. Bunch of white rain or +WhtRN at times. Never remember flakes flying so many hours with nothing to show for it, not even a solid slushing on my elevated deck. Stormy Posted November 1, 2019 Report Share Posted November 1, 2019 nevermind, just saw a 4.7" report from North Liberty. Maybe we tacked on another half inch or so after I left home this morning, which is quite possible since it was still accumulating when I left. So I'll take the official report of 4.7" bringing me to 7.5" for the year. That’s what I’m going with for October total here. This is not my biggest October snowstorm, but it’s the snowiest October of my records going back to 1990! Could even be the snowiest in over a century?! My October precip total is only 3.43”. Stormy Posted November 1, 2019 Report Share Posted November 1, 2019 I'll be honest, I didn't even go out and measure yesterday and I'm just going off the local spotter reports and the official ORD tally of 3.4", a local report of 5". The models did a good job showing the most intense part of the storm that hit in the afternoon when the defo band pivoted through. There were some awesome snowfall rates and the wind was strong as well. Certainly brings the winter-feel back in action. Gotta do a lot of yard work this weekend. Tons of leaves and branches fell off over the last week.Same here....lots of yard work to do once the snow all melts. Then it still needs to dry some. Leaves are several inches deep beneath the trees! 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Stormy Posted November 1, 2019 Report Share Posted November 1, 2019 I'd be very careful w them. I agree that cleaning your teeth twice a year is a good idea. I do the same too. Very important. I’m not worried at all. If something is to difficult then they get the pros there to do it, like when I had my wisdom teeth extracted there a few years ago. Lots of people get work done there. Just takes a lot longer as they have to get their instructors to check every little thing they do. 2 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
jaster220 Posted November 1, 2019 Report Share Posted November 1, 2019 For Tom From LOTWith last winter lingering through April and this early season snow, there was not much time between snowfall events for the off season. In fact the 185 days between accumulating snow events (>= 0.1 in) for Chicago was the 6th shortest stretch of days on record for the city. When looking at between 1"+ events, the 185 days was actually tied for the shortest stretch with 1967. 1 Quote Winter 2023-24 Snow Total = 53.1" (90% Normal Season) Largest Storm: 12" (1/12-13) Oct: 0.1 Nov: 2.9 Dec: 7.5 Jan: 31.7 Feb: 6.0 Mar: 4.3 Apr: 0.1 Avg = 59.2" (Harrison): 2023-24 = 53.1" Avg = 45.0" (KDTW): 2022-23 = 33.5" 2021-22 = 35.6" Avg = 49.7" (KRMY): 2020-21 = 36.2" 2019-20 = 48.0" 2018-19 = 56.1" 2017-18 = 68.3" 2016-17 = 52" 2015-16 = 57.4" 2014-15 = 55.3" 2013-14 = 100.6" (coldest & snowiest in the modern record!) 2012-13 = 47.2" 2011-12 = 43.7" Legit Blizzards (high winds and dbl digit snows): Feb 2011, Dec 2009, Jan 2005, Dec 2000, Jan 1999, Mar 1998, Nov 1989, Jan 1982, Jan 1978, Jan 1977, Apr 1975, Mar 1973, Jan 1967, Feb 1965, Jan 1918 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
