Part II- January 2020 Obs and Discussion

Temperature is actually dropping at a decent rate even without offshore winds or moisture.

Unfortunately I will be shadowed pretty much all night.

We have a pretty impressive batch of maritime polar air flooding in.  It sucks to be shadowed in these cases.

You certainly don't see 26 degrees on the west coast of Vancouver Island very often!  That is some really cold pouring over the ocean up there.  Meanwhile it's down to 19 in Hope.

Anything that falls now should be snow. Hard to wait for precip to drop further south. Last night at this time it was dumping rain.

Thankfully we have something starting to show up on the models for tomorrow night now.  That seems to be getting better as it gets closer.  Should hit the areas that get screwed tonight.  It will be colder when that falls too.

The arctic front is finally approaching Sumas and Abbotsford. The temperature started to drop at a good rate as the wind direction shifted to NE from SW in that area.

It has been acting like January 2012 but that event got about one foot of snow for many areas before the arctic air arrived.

Fairly narrow band affecting a specific area of the Sound with wet snow.

Not trying to downplay things but not really a "winter storm" in the normal sense.

Still looks nice in many areas, and the arctic air is just arriving. Gonna be a fun night still for you Sounders.

LOL thought I just saw a large snowflake swirling around in a wind eddy outside my window but it turns out it was just schmutz on my glasses.

Looks like the pressure has bottomed out at my house after consistently dropping since yesterday, been at 29.45 for about 45 minutes now. Wind has also gone calm after being out of the South all morning.

Now we know Chewbacca Defense wears glasses.

Hopefully not as oversized as Jesse’s.

Waiting for precipitation to return (hopefully). Radar looks pretty bleak at the moment. If that was it then at least I saw some flakes.

36 with a DP of 30 in Tacoma. I'm thinking south of Seattle Puget Sounders have a good chance of seeing snow the next several days. Think it'll be early tomorrow morning if we see anything this way. I'm liking my chances for snow the next few days though.

Tacoma WA elevation 300’

Monthly rainfall-3.56”

Warm season rainfall-11.14”

Max temp-88

+80 highs-2

+85 highs-2

+90 highs-0

You'll definitely see quite a bit, I think. Trends are most certainly in your favor, though of course it's Mother Nature who gets the final say.

Well we will have to see about mid week. I think we will see some snow tomorrow and Tuesday most likely. Wednesday and Thursday are up in the air at this point.
