Interesting.  I would imagine that could be fixed?

I hope so! I'm on mobile now and no locations are showing. It certainly adds a lot of context. I have both mobile and laptops but usually when the Euro runs at night it's mobile and it doesn't show. It does appear on PCs.

That's why I added my signature info which does appear. My PC profile sidebar info says I'm at 1850 ft in SE WA in the Lower Garfield and Asotin zone area. But not on mobile.

I haven't seen this mentioned but just recently the USDA re-evaluated its plant hardiness zones. Seattle got bumped up from Zone 8b to Zone 9a, which means that the expected annual low temps are between 20 and 25 degrees. I'm thinking they're gonna end up with egg on their face and will end up reverting the map next year. People in my neighborhood have been planting windmill palm trees left and right, which are supposedly a hardy palm species. But I don't think they'll survive what's coming next week!

Agreed. I'd even be hesitant to plant them in Victoria for that reason.

12 days out I wouldn't worry too much about warm noses.  I bet that frame changes 30 times and back between now and reality.

Oh you don't know where I live.  Southeast of Potland about 30 miles,  near  Estacada. They show up no regularly during these events.  The western foothills of the Cascades are notorious when we have an overriding event.  Missed out mostly on all the big snow dumps in Portland the last several years.

Here's my real definitely real definitely a lock definitely not joking forecast. Everywhere from Sacramento to Vancouver will get 3+' of snow, Oregon gets 5' because it's our turn, Portland will get -19 beating their all-time record by 16, spoke will get -48 beating their record by 14, Seattle will get -6, I in Sunriver will get -38. We will all stay cold and snow until February 5th, and we'll get a huge snowstorm on groundhogs day in spirt of the holiday. After Feb 5th there will be 1 large storm a week, wed-friday providing a ton of mountain snow, and the rest of the week will be sunny. This continues till early may when we all get tired of it, and then we get consistent temps in the 70s and 80s with rain every 2 weeks to prevent wildfires.

It's basically a lock at this point.

Did you get anything in Feb? Coworker lives in Estacada and did well during that event but there are so many microclimates I can definitely see how that would happen.

What gfs run are the dogs rooting for? If they're rooting for either the 12z or 18z, I'll side with the cats despite the fact I'm a dog person. If the dogs want the 00z from last night or the 06z, I'll side with the dogs.

No, they don't play nice.  There's a definite line where you go from tundra conditions to what feels like balmy in just a few miles.  It's really incredible.

Yeah, it depends on the species. High desert palms can generally do fine until around 0.

Semi-tropical/tropical palms are usually toast if it gets below 25 or so.

we had Cabbage and Saw Palmettos back east in SC growing up.  they survived -2 in 1985, but a couple had to be pruned back after that but they came back in spring, and commonly the teens at least once or twice every winter

I still haven’t told any family members. My wife has no idea anything might be coming.

Up here its impossible now because the media and forecasts have picked up on it.

I lived in the area, I know all too well.

there's that line somewhere from SE Portland, up Sunnyside to the Boring area that stays locked in.  South of there towards Carver, east to Estacada and point south suck.  Decent easterlies run along Springwater and keep the north side cold.  South of there less than a mile is radically warmer and less east wind influence.  Even at 1,200ft elevation at the the end of Springwater (Springwater community) gets much less snow than 205 north of Sunnyside.  Microclimates rule.

Probably not in Eugene, small market, less hype. Their newscasts are real snoozers and pretty amateur.
