Simple…Case in point would be what just happened over the weekend. It’s very difficult to get a regional event here, it’s either north or south. Why the hell would I root for south when that would cause me to be high and dry. I cannot frolic in snow that is 200 miles from me. And the east coast thinks they are special and the best at everything so why would I root for them to get snow?

bottom line is that I like snow in my backyard, not someone else’s.

Haha, I’m just jabbing you a bit. Of course we all want snow in our backyards. Tho if I can’t have it, I’d rather live vicariously through whoever is getting it versus no snow anywhere except Tahoe and Maine. Zzzz.

And lmao, you r right about NYC/New England weenies but you should have nothing but love for us Mid-Atlantic folks. We struggle as much as you guys sometimes...one of the few climates that can empathize with the lowland PNW in that sense. :(

It was sunny most of the morning, but now it has clouded up and there are flurries falling out of the stratus deck. Current temp is 25.

I want everyone to score. I want winter to be BACK everywhere. Let's do this.

What do you think about Silverton vs ice?  Will they be scoured out before the precip hits?  They weren't included in the warning zones.  Oversight or they're not going to be cold enough for a warning.  Looks to me like they're on the bubble for ZR.

Silverton will very likely get a decent amount of freezing rain. Up above about 1000' we should mix out fairly quickly for only minimal ice.

I went back and looked at the last low and there still were some pretty bif shifts in placement at 36hrs out. At that range the rgem did really good.

OT but check out this bright-banding in southern TN.

That’s all frozen. Has to be graupel mixing in there.

How far are you as the crow flies to the cascade crest?

Currently 32.2!
However the DP is 21 so it could be 40 right now it wouldn’t matter, everything is still rock solid frozen

25 degrees with cloudy skies and 1.5-2" or so of glacial ice. I think Eugene may be one of the colder spots in the WV at the moment. Walked to the Dari Mart and bought supplies (beer). I couldn't find my yaktrax but I found that my golf shoes work great on the ice. Internet is out, but the tether from my cell phone is working great. Lost power for about 20 minutes. I dug out all my cold weather gear and started putting it on when it came back. Phew. Not looking forward to the ice storm tomorrow. There are quite a few trees that are on the brink. Another half inch of ice would really cause some problems.

Heavy Sleet?

Has to be, I think. Either that or half dollar sized flakes. Not much frontogenic forcing with this wave.

Haven’t seen pure snow returns above 60dbz since February 2014. And that one eventually switched to sleet too (but those rates were insane while they lasted).

Probably 35-40 miles. The way the Western Cascades jut out once you get south of the metro area, we are actually much further west than you would think. I am almost directly due south of the Portland Airport as the crow flies.

Off topic but Huntsville, Alabama has a Winter Storm Warning and is forecast to have a high of 19 tomorrow and low of 5 tomorrow night. They’re right near that radar image Phil posted.

Might be time to point out PDX has recorded snowfall in 9 straight winters. Gonna go for double digits next year!
