Day 8 Go away ridge! No ridge November!

Yet another trough that ended up verifying colder than the models had projected.  SEA is bottoming out below 534 heights where 537 or so had been projected.  850s are looking to bottom out at -6 while -5 had been progged on most runs.  This continues the trend of these cold troughs verifying colder than projected by the models.  I still can't believe we have had two of these already this season and it's not even Nov 10!

Wow!  Dew points have plummeted to near 20 from Everett north now and mid 20s over the Central Puget Sound.  With that dry air seeping in here I might drop to the mid 20s tonight thanks to being sheltered from the wind.  I freeking love north wind cold snaps.

Serious potential for some big minus temperature departures on Monday.  I could see colder spots checking in with something like 41 / 25.  Really solid stuff for this early.

My money is on the GFS right now.  The EPS has been more supportive of the colder / deeper trough solution that model has been advertising in the 5 to 10 day period.  The EPS PNA forecasts have been pretty tanked for quite a while now.

40 degrees with rain. There's a slightly convective blob of moisture headed this way. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the higher locations around town see some mixed showers in the next hour or so.

EPS this time is more like the operational, and showing warmer than normal temps toward day 9 and 10.  May be short lived though.

Everything is froze up outside now.  The rain we had earlier is now a layer of ice.  D**n impressive.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out.  Pretty likely there will be another major blocking episode later in the month.

The ECMWF operational surface obs graph shows temps staying below normal through Saturday now.  I'm rather intrigued how the cold snap last month and now this one had pretty good duration....especially for early season events.

Same here, had a 20 minute shower right before sunset and it is all frozen now

Usually we only hit freezing for like a few mins around 5AM or so and then it warms up pretty quickly so it's cool for us to say we got a freeze, but ultimately we will always be far more dependent on upper-level conditions for super exciting stuff.

36 and mostly cloudy here. We’ve never had a freeze since I moved to Oregon in 1989 and never will.

I know this isn't the political section and this is the only thing I'm going to say about this.  There are a slew of lawsuits in swing states regarding irregularities that are probably legitimate and will probably be acted on by the courts.  It's not over by a long shot folks.  One of my personal favorites is in AZ where they gave pens to voters to use that rendered the ballots disqualified due to using the wrong kind of pen.

On a personal note I simply can't stand the stress of this so I'm largely ignoring it, but I can't help myself from taking a peek every now and then at what's going on.

Stop focusing on it and just do your best to think about the weather. I try to focus on the weather and sports and then the other BS that makes me mad I am more apt to tune out.

Hovering around 40 here. It's downright windy from the north here, gusting above 30. A tranquil, lively yet peaceful scene outside as the douglas firs protest the gales with a loud droning roar. I love Fraser blasts.

One of those rare nights where Western WA has colder temps than Eastern WA.  Already some 20s showing up.  30 degrees here.  Tomorrow morning is going be white here with heavy frost and frozen moisture from the rain earlier.

It's gusting above 35mph. The winds are coming out of the Fraser River valley. My area is quite exposed to the north, and I still haven't had northerly winds like this since February 2019.

It may not be a traditional winter-like arctic front, but it's still a solid blast of winds from the north.

I guess I get up at 5:30 every day now after the time change.   Too early.
