What is different is the more common occurrence of widespread burning down there... that does not happen in Randy's area either.    Anyone can have a bad neighbor who is burn happy.   😃

I believe most people just don't know how to burn a brush pile.  I do it 2 times a year and when I do I get it over with. Amazing how fast and clean it burns with a leaf blower giving it oxygen.

Richard Mann could predict the arrival of cold air to the west weeks out, way better than the models or anyone else on this forum.  He was generally spot on give or take a few days, you just had to read between the lines of his posts, which really wasn't that hard to do.

Feels like Oregonians might suffer from an inferiority complex.   Even though no one up here thinks that way.   We are all just inclined to discuss what is happening in our own areas.

Yeah I’m not a fan of backyard burning only because most of the backyard burners don’t know how to properly burn a pile of brush and they let it smolder for days on end. Burn fast and hot, it’s not that hard. Also when burning pick a day where the wind direction blows it back towards your house, not in the opposite direction towards your neighbors that want to enjoy some fresh air while out working in their yards. I’m not a city yuppy, have lived in a rural setting my entire life, but yeah the stench of days on end of crappy wet burning is awful. Everyone around my area has between 5 and 50 acres, plenty of space to just have a brush/yard waste pile in the woods that you occasionally push/compact down with a tractor as things naturally break down…That’s what I do.

Yeah I never have a fire that smolders like that. They are probably burning wet branches, leaves, etc... We have that sometimes after the holidays they will rip out some of the larger Christmas trees they did not cut (at a certain size they are no longer economically viable), and they ll burn the green piles. They will smolder for weeks sometimes.

There was one controlled burn (near Keno I think?) some months ago that ended up becoming "uncontrolled", I'll dig up the facebook post unless it was deleted. This was a bit before smoke season fully kicked in, so people were like this is why it's so bad outside RN? 🤣

I may be a bit confused here but there was this one guy that had a knack for predicting weather… vague at times. I don’t remember who, but he could be this guy. Interesting nonetheless, it’s kinda like fortune telling, you can be extremely vague and people will buy into it.

More variable weather for sure as well. In January last year SPC had a TOR Watch for them.

I think K-Falls averages more snowfall than most cities in KY but they should get the odd blizzard or two.

Exactly. It feels to me like a lot of folks in Washington (not all of them, and not everyone on the board) don't have a concept of what it's like down here. I also feel like more Oregonians visit Washington more often than vice versa relative to population.

It's the way it feels to me. Doesn't make it factually correct (usually I'm just misguided or overly use confirmation and/or negativity bias because I've lived a very sad life).

Not saying he was a clairvoyant genius, he was skilled and forecasted in a different way.  And he was right way more times than not, most of you back then just had a problem with him and his posting style, he was easier to understand than the younger version if him now in the forum.

You're more likely to get an extreme event back there. Weather in the PNW plays Hootie and the Blowfish to the Midwest's Metallica.
