Today is the first day that the sun is above 50 degrees the horizon here!

We get to a 40-degree sun angle here in a few days.    Seems like we are never going to catch up!     Still... we have gone from 19 to almost 40.    Our peak is at 65.8.

The ITCZ thunderstorm activity has suddenly increased and the dry air index has taken a plunge down from recent very high values. Those high values kept all of January very dry. The March Miracle still possible, DryAirIndex.thumb.png.9e24df99c9bef866322e43efb062f6da.png

All we need is a favorable jet stream pattern. I’ll be doing my imaginary rain dances.

Even the NWS San Diego forecast discussion sounds annoyed with the wind:

Again with the wind. This time it will be a Santa Ana wind impacting
the area Thursday evening through Friday afternoon. But before we
get the offshore wind we will have onshore flow and a deepening
marine layer from a Catalina Eddy that is spinning up over the
coastal waters this afternoon. Low clouds over the coastal waters
this afternoon will spread eastward into the coastal zones and
  western valleys through Thursday morning.

They are probably wishing for rain and mountain snow as much as we are! I'll bet they are tired of this repetitive weather pattern that doesn't seem to ever want to end!

There was a curious little patch of showers yesterday that started just south of Indio and floated down to the border. I think maybe it was generated by an onshore eddy or an eddy that came ashore. Observers do sometimes mention eddys. Here is an article by NASA about SoCal eddys.SoCal Eddy

https://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/images/80591/catalina-eddy

I say curious because that there must be some limited moisture in the area and something to create the instability. Daytime heating? Do eddys always  rotate ccw? Are they mini low pressure systems?
