I always thought the thermometers needed to be in some sort of housing for official stations but obvious immediate surroundings would still play a role there can be lots of little issues that can make stations run a few degrees too warm or cold VUO ran too warm for years until they finally got around to fixing it then in December it started running too cold until they had to fix it again not sure what the mechanics behind either case were 1 Quote Summer grows while Winter goes Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

But living at 1600' it's very noticeable it's really hard to cool that bottom 1000', probably for the reason you mentioned. Even today, looks like it is 31 and 30 at the two stations closest to my house, so that's like a 12F difference with SLE.
