Gradient Keeper
Surprised no one has commented on the east winds in the Portland area today. PDX was gusting up around 40mph all afternoon. It has been very cold and windy out here. High of only 37 today, after a low of 32, with east winds gusting in the 30-40mph range.Yeah, really widespread downslope event.TTD-DLS is around -9mb right now and OTH-GEG almost -18mb. Whenever you have the cross-cascade doubling the gap gradient the winds will spread out throughout PDX/VUO metro. Tomorrow it should be 90-100mph+ at Crown Point. WRF shows 40-50kts just off the surface. My peak gust this event is only 42.2mph so far. Last event Monday I had 46.6 and 46.2mph. We could see another Wind Advisory issued tomorrow mainly east of I-205 I'd think and not quite as strong throughout the area.

snow_wizard
Most of the models had a rather Arctic look to them today. Or at least a cold continental look. TT-SEA
The roaring east wind and cold temperatures out here certainly haven't been springlike, but whatever people want to delude themselves into thinking elsewhere... Dude... why are people deluding themselves when there was not a roaring east wind and cold temperatures elsewhere??? It felt very spring-like at lunch today in Bellevue. Light wind... warm in the sun. It is what it is. You are so bothered by people's perception of spring-like weather in the winter. Trust me... people from the Midwest would think this is more than spring-like. They would literally be running around in flip-flops and shorts here this week. We have winter-like days in the summer as well. TT-SEA
.On a 53-degree day in August with drizzle... I am the FIRST person to say it is a winter-like day. It is what it is. Fact is... a warm, sunny day in January feels more like spring than winter. Today felt very much like spring. And I am noticing more daylight (don't have to wait until mid-February as Jesse claims)... that adds to the perception. It used to be dark when I left a client office at 4:45... today the sun was still shining. westcoastexpat
Except for every night having freezing low temps. Well, maybe for your location. Vancouver for example has gone below freezing once in the last 16 days. It has been a pretty "normal" or "average" January for metro Vancouver, Blaine, Bellingham, etc. Perhaps a couple degrees above normal overall, if that. It has been dry for quite a while now but there was that very rainy period in the second week of January which makes up for the dryness now.
