I'm just trolling AlpineExperience since she is so negative sometimes.

I've been the king of negativity here lately. I had good reason though until the other night. You've been very fortunate down in PDX, you don't have any room to "troll" anyone. Who uses that word anyways?

Glad you and I were finally able to see some snow. Brennan and I drove for about 2 hours around town, finally got back around 3:30am. The 4" we saw brings us to 6" on the season

Nice man i glad you got some fun up there. I was hoping you would get 6 or more but still 4 inches is a good snowfall.

Sitting at 31.9 here with 0.8" of snow. Just got done with a new burst of snow. Seems like the convergence fires then wanes and refires again.

A lot of roads with snow/slush on them tonight. Will be an icy mess if it cools off much more.

Appreciate it! Phil promised he'd eat crickets if I didn't score 6" or more in 1 event... I let him off the hook though

Did I say one event? I thought it was one month.

Edit: Nevermind, I remember upping the ante at the last minute. I think.

Well, we still didn't get 6" in 1 month lol. We agreed on 24 hours.

Hey, it could still happen. The Cubs won the World Series and Donald Trump is our president..scoring a 6” slush bomb should be easy, relatively speaking.

It was a good snowstorm for the Seattle area, the best in a long time.

But it wasn't as good as the one Portland had in January, especially since that one was going into cold and the snow stayed around for awhile.

The fact that Seattle managed a good snowstorm last winter doesn't disprove that they haven't done as well as Portland since 2012, for cold or snow. The snow part has continued this month...though at least the northern Puget Sound region has done somewhat better.

I have lived near Seattle metro area my whole life (36yrs) and this is by far the worst stretch of winter I have seen around the Seattle area.  The general Seattle area has not seen more than 1-2" since 2012.  All the snowstorms since 2012 have melted away that same day too.  This last week has been the most prolonged snow chance since 2012.  Last years snow missed the seattle area outside a small 1 mile strip at the airport because of a convergence zone.

Having the most snow so far this season in K-Falls. Already 3-4" out there and I'll take a midnight measurement. Will probably continue well into early morning.

The most I measured from one system up to this point was 2.6" on Dec 2nd. I should have had numerous singular 2-4" events like that by now, but not this time.

I think you're forgetting about the Feb 2017 storm. The snowfall that just hit a narrow area, including SEA, was in December 2016, I believe.

And it would be tough to beat the 1999-2006 stretch for snowfall futility. 2003-04 was the only good winter in a 7 winter stretch, and 1999-00, 2002-03, 2004--05, and 2005-06 all had very little or no snow in the Seattle area.

Just went for a walk and it's beautiful. A very light snow falling with the moon out and stars peaking through the clouds. Ended up with 3 inches.

It might drive you crazy sometimes with all the 'oh so close' snow events but once you finally get a fairly good snowfall it makes up for it. :)

Just got back in for the night... looks like a tiny dusting at my house per my front door camera.   Not too often that Carnation has more snow than my house.    Thank you for taking the snow tonight!  :)

We did mantra ray night diving tonight on a charter boat... it was super cool but also sort of eerie being out in the open ocean in the dark.    The mantra rays were awesome and huge.   Quite the sight to see.   They use spotlights to attract the plankton which attracts the mantra rays.

Not to mention no cold.  2007 through now has been worlds better for cold than 1999 - 2006.  No comparison.

BTW my area did get nice little snow in early Dec 2005.  The day Portland was supposed to get nailed.  A rare SW flow snow event.

I would say the prospects for late week are very promising now, because the GFS and Euro both show basically the same thing and the time frame is in the believable zone now.  Besides that we have seen marked improvement in details the past couple of runs.  If the models verify we will have snow opportunities on the NE, N, and NW quadrants of the ULL.  If Seattle can't score in one of those we are truly cursed.

Yeah, I remember the Dec 2005 snow. But that was mainly a south sound special - I don't think Seattle proper got much of anything from it.

For my area this would probably be a bad winter, with the possibility of running around half my average snowfall by end of March, unless next month gets a lot more active.

All of these showers and the flow swinging from WSW to NW and not ONE shower could make it here.  Just incredible bad luck here.

Another CZ up near Arlington. Go figure

It's not even a CZ.  There is some other forcing mechanism.

I've now had heavy bands of precip just to my south and just to my north today. I was lucky enough to get nicked by the first one just enough to give me some graupel but I keep missing the main course. It sucks. Maybe this one can drag south.

Its not bad luck... the precipitation pattern on the radar right now is very common for our area.   It happens ALL the time with rain.
