Feb 28th - March 2nd Storm System

Tom

Recommended Posts

Its been a rather heavy rainfall over the last few hours as I sit underneath the defo band of this system.  Raw, wet, chilly and blustery day as March opens up like lion.  Where were these dynamic systems in the winter months???

Looks like this winter went out of its way to aggravate us..Periods of very cold weather with no storms anywhere.. Then we start a very stormy period with no cold air around.

I tried looking up a live cam at Detroit Metro Airport. It's literally just a white screen, but you can see flakes flying in front of it. Gotta be fun to see there right now.

 Kinda weird if you think about it. That 8-12 makes no sense, but we will see.

Btw: how much for your area?

Also, its funny how some care for Macomb, MI so much today  . Beware, a lot of haters on here today because we are getting the storm and not others. It clearly shows.

The only people who actually experience winter on this forum are Niko, Jasper, and St Paul...

That's catchy; make a good name for a band..

Since Mr. Money could live anywhere from Little Rock to Winnipeg; I can't really grade him...

Of course Madtown has been in the Screw Zone all winter; wherever that is...

Almost every station in and around Detroit was reporting either moderate or heavy snow in the last hour; all with visibilities of 1/4 to 1/2 mile; and all with temperatures right near the freezing mark.

Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport with 0.57 LE the last four hours (which implies VERY heavy snow).

The rain there changed to snow 4 hours ago.

Ann Arbor with 0.62 LE the last four hours; and they have likewise seen some very heavy snow.

Grading the Winter 2017-18:

Central & NE Nebraska: C

Wisconsin: C-

I'd give it a C/C- in Lincoln, might be a bit higher if I wasn't gone for the record cold snap. Also consider though that this is my first winter here from somewhere that averages 2-3" annually, so this is the closest thing to a real winter I've ever experienced.

Perspective is very important.  I am certain one of those "Beverley Hills Housewives" would obtain far less satisfaction from a new Mercedes-Benz automobile for Christmas than someone living in abject poverty would derive from a nice, tasty, hot dinner.

Michigan has seen some nice snow, but not an "A" for me.  Currently at 80+ inches for the winter.   I haven't had snow on the ground in 2 weeks.  Barely a pile left except for parking lots.  First time it hit 60+ (at GRR) three times in February ever.  Most of our snow was lake effect early in the season.  I guess it depends where you live.  It's really been an up and down season.  More downs though.

I would give our snow a C, but the cold and wind a B.  We don't have sustained cold for the entire winter here like some places way up north, but the cold snaps have seemed worse this year when we did have snow on the ground.  Our snow is now 99% gone.  Don't know if we will have much more, but this time of year any new snow doesn't last very long.

It is a general state grade; but probably more attuned to the three main Michigan Posters; Jim, Niko, & Jasper.

That is a big state with 10,000 separate micro-climates; so obviously to broad brush it like I did is sort of impossible; it was just a quick evaluation on my part.

I do know that parts of the UP are a little below normal for snow.

The same is true with "B" for Minnesota; another very large state with many diverse climates; and great variations over short distances.

Also, the grades are subject to revision; pending final examinations...i.e. March & April...and maybe even May; in applicable areas.

(I'm hoping to raise my Z to an F).

That's true, I didn't see a drop (of rain or snow) from the latest storm.  My county was under a WWA for some reason.

I did not have time to measure, but it was a great snowfall. I would say several inches fore sure. I heard that places nearby my area did very well, if not better.

2.5" of the sludge snow at home in Marshall, most on elevated surf's. Take an inch off that on the grass, and pavement was mostly just wet. Got me to 60" tho!
