September 2018 Weather in the Pacific Northwest

Not entirely true.  We do get some decent years.

Decent = years with 1 week long cold snap bookended by long, dreary wet periods.

Gold standard of our era = December 2008 (likely unachievable for at least another 10 years)

Holy Grail= winter 1861-62 (won't happen again in our lifetimes)

Droughts actually do increase the odds of flash floods once rains finally arrive. Soil tends to develop a hydrophobic surface profile during extended dry periods, increasing initial runof.

That's why it was drought-induced.

Your prayers for a quick end killed him.  Sweet dreams.

Still right in Richland. Drove through neighborhoods for 6 miles to the top of a hill for another winery. One striking difference here is that most everyone has lush green lawns. Unlike the dead and weed-filled lawns you see in Seattle.

Over an inch of rain today.  This is about the soggiest I've seen it this early in the season.  One interesting thing this summer is the fact our sword fern was terribly wilted up until this rain began.  The first time I've seen that plant wilt.

That is an interesting phenomenon.  I guess it's so brown overall in that area that people care about having a green lawn much more so than here.  I've even noticed it in Liberty.

There have been many other great ones.  The last truly good winter was 1968-69 where snow was on the ground for a few weeks in many places, temperatures got VERY cold, and snow depths were very impressive.  My favorite month that I can clearly remember has to be Nov 1985.  We had deep cold and snow on the ground for two solid weeks.

You must have missed the part about his fern wilting.

That was before the faucet was permanently turned on again. Now its ridiculously wet again in our part of the world.

No doubt it was incredible up until this current trough.  In some ways I think the drought this year beat the one we had last year.

What are the records?

I see this morning's record was 31 in 1970, but the record on the 14th was 19 that same year. That looks impressive. I think so far since I have been here, my earliest temperature in the teens have been in November.

Though I have seen a couple around 21 last October. Still, 19 in September is crazy even for here.

I still think the odds are better than bad we see a period of ridging the last week of the month. Maybe a significant one.

Believe when I see it. Everything becomes a deep trough in the models now.

Soros and I actually completely fabricated the four months of record heat and drought. Fact.

I fabricated the wettest 4 years in Seattle history as well. Have not worked with Soros though... PM me his number.
