January 2019 Weather in the Pacific Northwest

The vast majority of the 12z EPS members bring in two rounds of cold air with the prolonged -NAMT. The other (smaller) cluster is a one-and-done type deal with a more progressive wavetrain. There are some interesting possibilities throughout.

My wife is convinced that there will be no snow next week. It will be all her fault if things trend too far west or east.

She is wrong!   You will have to troll her next week.    ;)

Some unfortunate news out of Chicago. They missed the all-time record max because of a ******* midnight high... Illinois state record could fall tonight though and they could be in the ball park of the all-time Chicago record low. Rockford is forecast to set their all-time record.

I'm still skeptical PDX gets snow out of this. I'm sure the foothills will get an ample amount, but not the lowlands proper.

No mention of a polar vortex on Fox News... but there is much more important news to plaster on their main page.

Absolutely "stunning" video of snow falling in Michigan... and a lump on someone's head... and a very important poll ranking the Supreme Court justices on popularity... and someone cheating on their sick wife.

This reads like BuzzFeed.

We got punked by a midnight high too. Not as big a deal since the worst of the airmass missed us and no all time records were in jeopardy, but I really wanted to get our first -20 departure out of the way now.

Um...there's definitely a polar vortex on the page. Unless this is sarcasm, of course.

Missed that.

More important to highlight a snow time lapse video like the thousands of other such videos on YouTube. :)

Welcome back man. Still waiting for the requisite “hate (love) to be the bearer of bad news guys but the EPAC plus the mountain torque wave over Mongolia is totally unfavorable for a blast for the PNW right now, but don’t worry, take whatever the given date is and add 3-4 years and that’s when y’all are gonna score big time.” post ;)

It's always surprised me with how much made up bullshit and pseudoscience Phil gets away with on here. He's a very interesting character.

I’m just catching up on things right now. So far I don’t see anything that would cause the pattern to fail to materialize. Just a question of whether enough cold air makes it south for a lowland snowstorm, or whether it’s a Feb 2008 type deal. Either way, it won’t suddenly flop and morph into a ridge or BSF. Too much middle latitude AAM loss for that to happen w/ an EHEM MJO in early February, IMO.

I’ll give you the “made-up bullshit” part, though that was like six or seven years ago. Get the fuuck over it already.

But what “pseudoscience” are you referring to? I think it’s more likely you lack functional intelligence and compensate for it by acting like a d*ck 24/7. Nobody needs that. Grow up.

This is all I want to see happen in Seattle next week. Is this too much to ask?

INTENSE SNOW SQUALL hammering Buffalo, NY with whiteout conditions and a taste of the #blizzard conditions to develop by tomorrow afternoon in this area. Very dangerous winter conditions. Good heavens @breakingweather @accuweather #PolarVortex pic.twitter.com/O87Nujl6Ju— Reed Timmer (@ReedTimmerAccu) January 30, 2019

I need to spend a winter in a lake effect belt at some point in my life. Couldn’t live there but I have to experience that before I’m too old/invested to enjoy it.
