February 2019 Weather Observations and Discussion Part 2

Recommended Posts

Here's how I've calculated it based on my daily cleared deck measurements:

10" on the 3rd/4th

7" on 8th/9th

6" on 10th

19" to 24" on 11th/12th (My measurement system broke down mid-day when I had to clear the deck)

1.5" on 19th/20th

2" on 22nd (just measured)

Grand total for February (so far): 45.5" to 50.5"

Thanks... that seems about right.   I measured an inch on my walkway this afternoon which was the only bare spot in my yard... but there might have been some melting initially on that surface.

I don’t understand, icon, nam and RGEM all believe Sunday mornings event will be primarily to all rain down here. Aren’t temperatures cool enough for snow with this unstable airmass?

I still don't expect any rain, it should be plenty cold with outflow starting up and dry air in place, but catching that brief deformation band in the right spot might be tricky. If it lines up with the southern Saanich Peninsula then we'll see snow Sunday morning, if it doesn't it'll be another boring dry blast.

It looks less like a deformation band and more like a convergence zone especially on the gfs. I’d hope for the latter because those can give better accumulations

Hell... even some of the weather geeks up on this forum have said they are fine with the next storm hitting Portland because of all the issues we have had with snow this month.

If people on a weather forum are OK with missing out on snow for the sake of regular life returning... you know most "normal" people around here are also fine with no more snow. ;)

Minute select few, keep leading that charge though...

Currently have an angry baby from teething that finally fell asleep in my arms so I am not moving...however looking out at my deck from my chair it is white so I am assuming the snow is falling again.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Could live with that one. Maybe a smidgen north, but really this is reminding me of 2/6/14, once again.

Looks like some snow for most of the Metro on the Oregon side.

If I were you I'd rather be a tiny bit to far north than a tiny bit to far south.

I'd love if this thing trends north and blasts Victoria; it's been an extremely long time since one of these SW-NE tracking systems has lined up nicely for anything here. Such systems have nailed areas only 20-50 miles north of here and 50-100 miles south of here over the past couple years. I'm curious to see what such a track could do here with cold air in place.

Still I feel I got my snow fix earlier this month and I don't feel as invested in the outcome of this. Probably should be Oregon's turn this time around. That said, if it's not going to hit this area I'd rather it go way north or way south, I'm getting kind of sick of missing out on the fringe.

36 at The Dalles and Hermiston. 34 at Pendleton.

40 at Pasco.

The upper Columbia Basin is in the mid-20s so I'd imagine that colder air will start working south once this front passes through...

Oh, I didn't know that was where that term came from lol. Yeah, that must of been one heck of a model riding period. It brought not only wind but snow to that region.

We were pretty lucky. The forecast was for 90mph winds but there was a weak stable layer that held just long enough to keep winds around 70mph. Still nasty but not as bad as it could have been. Didn’t have any tree damage on my property.

Kind of a hybrid feature with that dissipating low. It might be the beginning of the outflow that briefly energizes it. Deformation bands are by their nature an area of converging winds.

You really do have issues, not looking for an argument here, but d**n dude, I do not live there, nice job reading way too much in to what I said, take a xanax or something... settle the **** down!!

I am not reading anything into what you said.    I said after 50 inches of snow this month... I am cheering for this one to go south.   And you launched into some attack on me based on income and my yuppie neighbors and cliques.   Which was of course unnecessary and completely off topic... but seems to be the main undercurrent and root source of your issues with me since it always comes up.    I sense this from a few others as well.

So... I am going to tell you a little bit more about me in an effort to build a bridge.

We left Minnesota with $1,000.   We do not come from wealthy families.   My father-in-law was a plumber and my dad was a public school teacher.   My wife paid for her entire education... and then her masters degree.   When we got married we had well over $100,000 in student debt and $1,000 in the bank.     And moved into a small apartment in a really bad area of downtown San Diego so my wife could be a nurse at Balboa Naval Hospital.    We saved enough money to buy a tract home in a nicer suburb of San Diego and got really lucky with the San Diego real estate market.   We used that equity to buy 12 acres of land in northern San Diego County and built a home there.   We got lucky again and it went up in value and we used that equity to buy the lot in North Bend where we live now.  We bought the smallest and cheapest lot in our development and still barely made it work.   But they say its best to be the cheapest house in a nice neighborhood as opposed to the opposite.   We contracted to have our home built but we spent over a year doing everything we could to keep costs down.   And we still have the most basic home possible.  But we did it.   The lansdscaping and gardens have been a 15-year labor of love for my wife.   We have no gardeners or any other help.   We have done it all ourselves.   I drive a old Honda Accord that is probably worth $10K.  We bought a boat for $15K.   My sons both drive cars under $10K and pay for them themselves with their own money they earn working.  We are actually looked down upon by some of our neighbors for our "crappy" cars parked in the driveway.     And we still do not have much savings other than our 401Ks through our employers... and money is a constant stress.    Our vacations involve stopping at Costco first and buying all of our food there.   Or they are work-related for my wife and paid for by someone else.

It does not feel real good to be labeled as some wealthy yuppie who had everything handed to him and does not relate to the common folk.   Its not accurate.  I am very common... and feel way more comfortable in a local bar and grill than in some overpriced restaurant in Bellevue or Seattle.

I guess knowing more about a person is probably better than making false assumptions.

It does not feel real good to be labeled as some wealthy, yuppie who had everything handed to him and does not relate to the common folk. Its not accurate. I am very common... and feel way more comfortable in a local bar and grill than in some overpriced restaurant in Bellevue or Seattle.

I guess knowing more about a person is probably better than making false assumptions.

Well said and bravo for being honest. But for fukks sake, own the climate please!!!!!! Don’t whine all spring when it rains and when it’s a little below normal in temp. Thanks. HDM

I was skeptical the WWA would verify tonight, but it looks like it is going to.

I know the climate in my area better than most people.   And I reserve the right to complain about the weather like everyone else does on here!   But I don't complain much any more unless it gets really unreasonable.  And that will inevitably happen from time to time.  And side note... I also complained about the wildfires the last two summers.  Too extreme the other way.

Much respect to you Tim. I fully respect any man that can come from struggles of money and work there way up to a beautiful home you have. 15 years ago when we went out to eat it was off the dollar menu. Been at the bottom.

Sounds familiar. My wife and I have worked our asses off to get to where we are now. For several years we both had full time jobs and a few part time gigs on top of that. We played the real estate market just right last spring and made our move. We got an insane amount for our 1969 split level which was the only way we could afford buying the place we have now. The place nearly doubled in value in two years. I drive a 7yr old Chevy truck and my wife drives a 5yr old Subaru. Our family lake house has been in the family since 1958. My boat is 32yrs old and my jetski is 17yrs old. Most of my working career was spent doing manual labor outside full time until recently. But people on the forum think I am a selfish yuppie...which makes me just simply laugh.
