Squall line thunderstorm (almost severe!) passed through K-Falls just now with a 53mph gust at KLMT and lightning every 3-5 seconds. No footage of this but I'm sure I'll have another storm probably later today if they're as good.

This should have happened during the watch; I had one of the loudest t'storms in the last few years.

Good round of rain soaking the Puget Sound region right now after dousing the cascades. We will see how much we have by this afternoon.

Left home at 5 a.m. for WSU. Getting gas in Cle Elum now.

Torrential rain from North Bend to the pass. Hard to see and lots of ponding water pulling the car. Looks like .70 in North Bend so far.

At this point... probably safe to say we will not need to water at all this summer. Days are getting shorter and there is more rain ahead. Lush green summer of 2019.

Picked up 0.06" of rain and had some thunder and lightning on and off for a few hours here.

Good to see some rain fall last night along with hearing thunder. Portland, Troutdale, Vancouver and Kelso all got 0.10" or more. Hillsboro got 0.09". There was a sharp cutoff to the moisture though, Aurora only got 0.01" and McMinnville got nothing.

I would think northern Nunavut would be the actual "worst" place in Canada for convection.

I would think you’re right. I should have said southern Canada. Although using Environment Canada’s threshold of lightning striking within 25km, the only city in Nunavut with data is Arviat and they average slightly more tstorm days than Victoria. Using their data, Nanaimo is quite a bit more likely to see a tstorm than Victoria, but Prince Rupert is the least likely city to see lightning in BC.

Nest cam showed lightning in the distance but stayed just to the south of me.

Impressive storm though down south

Still raining pretty good here...will check the bucket in a bit

yeah we were just on the northern edge of the storms. I got some amazing videos last night though. Some strikes were pretty close to my house towards the end, heard very loud close thunder, but we were in the perfect place for quite a show last night.

Yeah it probably will rain again even though we don’t need it to any more this summer haha. Pretty impressive totals for August, today is the most Measurable precip during an August day since 8/29/15. This is also the wettest August in 4 years as well officially.

Glad you got to enjoy....I’m sure their were a few close rumbles here but I fell asleep after that last post around 12:30 or so. I did enjoy the sound of the heavy rain early this morning. Very nice soaking for the yard. Trees will be happy!

I don't see how that's possible. I know eugene is one of the worst places on the planet for storms, but I've heard at least a hundred or more this year alone. However, like an idiot I always go outside to soak it in.

I wasn’t in the S Valley when we had them. It was always badly timed. The storms we had this past year had lightning and thunder in Eugene but not Springfield and went NNE. When I had already gotten back to town. I heard 1 clap of thunder earlier this year but haven’t seen any lightning since 2006.

Hit one hell of a storm coming into down from Adams and into Hood River around 8pm last night. Lightning was loud, frequent and very close. Saw a few strikes that appeared to hit the tops of some of the hills around town. Torrential rain as well. I-84 westbound was basically a pond at points between Hood River and Viento.

Today will be the 3rd day in a row we won't hit 70. Feels like summer is winding down here in the foothills.

A lot of cool August talk the last few days. Something cooler than what we’ve seen lately but still slightly above average seems likely to me. PDX is still 3F above average through the first 9 days of the month, would take a lot to overcome that.

Were still at 77.5/58.0 which is about 2.5+ as well here through day 9. Slightly above avg at the end of AUG sounds about right.

Sounds like we may have gotten a sh*t GFS run. Details to come...

looks pretty hot past day 10. Things are still going to be messy with all the activity across the western pacific. Could be showing 3 inches across the whole area by the 0z. Makes the forecasting past day 5 pretty difficult.
