May 2020 Weather discussion for the PNW

Daughter and I were there last August. Make sure you take a day to make the trip over State Hwy 120(Tioga Pass). You won't regret that either

Missed this earlier. I have been before, but it’s been about nine years! This will be the significant other’s first time there, though. Definitely planning to go over Tioga and through Tuolumne Meadows.

The GFS is off its rocker on this one.

 

Go with a CMC/ECMWF blend. They handle dateline MJO/CCKW transits a million times better than the GooFuS.

And the GEM looks just like the GFS now.

I'm not one to get spiritual over natural geography being a native of Oregon, but there is something really emotional about the granite and the shear immensity.

 

I was in awe, standing at the base of El Capitan and simply putting my hands on the base of 3000 feet of nearly vertical rock.

 

It is certainly a special place

CMC looks like the Gfs now. Does the Ecmwf rely on more planes to get their data?

Yep it went straight over my house and I didn’t even know!

Perhaps tomorrow we will be better weather watchers and get the shot!

That is really interesting to watch... and the video clarity is amazing.

Had to dust off my desktop computer to make this!  Really did turn out pretty cool.  To bad the funnel cloud didn’t make it into the shot but I did catch a dog chasing a cat down the street lol.  Cat got away and dog was totally confused on how the cat just disappeared!

ECMWF roasts California. Even the far northern parts just a couple hundred miles away. A little more amplification on the ridge and Oregon/Washington roast too.

 

EDIT: ECMWF throws Oregon in the oven by day 9. What do you know.

1.60” here as of yesterday afternoon here...we only had 0.71” in May of 2018 and 2019...feels weird to actually get decent rainfall in May almost.
