June 2020 Weather Discussion for the PNW

Recommended Posts

I think its Jesse who constantly takes the bait. Always has to make negative retorts when anyone is happy about nice weather. Its just a reflex with him now.

You want nice weather?? YOU WANT TO KILL TREES!! :)

Its the same people all the time with the weather preference shaming.   Phil and Jesse... with Tiger cheering them on from the sidelines.

Funny thing is that Jesse scolds Phil for his hyperbolic shaming and then does the exact same thing himself.

12Z EPS has been showing the same general pattern in the long range lately.    Even out through the end of the run.

Not a big ridge or extreme heat... but not real troughy and cold either.

79 here.   Heading out to enjoy the nice afternoon before the big crash.

I’m actually just about to leave for Rimrock lake. Spending the night there.

Funny, I camped there during the month of the old thread I just bumped. Hiked Bear Creek mountain in the northeastern Goat Rocks the next day.

Ban Jesse and Tim. And then me.

It’s insane they have been allowed to do this for a decade.

Having only been here since Oct, 2017, I can say it used to drive me nuts but It's really quite funny actually as long as many tens of pages aren't overly bloated with it. Trouble is, this time of year isn't as active so it ends up where we are at.  In the regular season, there seems to be less of it on a per-post basis as there is a more unified focus on the active weather. Or maybe it's just confirmation bias on my part.

Thank you, Tim for your snow maps every year.

I gave up the weather preference attacks awhile ago. People can cheer for anything they want and you will not see anything from me in response. Its so pointless. Unfortunately... a couple people seem to routinely drag down the discussion with rants about people's preferences. I honestly believe Jesse worries more about people's perceptions than the actual weather.

It has been beautiful. But summer is still young. Many are chomping at the bit for another heat and smoke filled nightmare to start ASAP, and there is plenty of time for it.

This was unnecessary and hyperbolic. And in response to people just hoping for a nice holiday weekend. This actually projects your fears.

Are you planning any hikes? McCall Basin at the headwaters of the North Fork Tieton is really nice, but may still have a lot of snow this early.

Can't say I didn't warn ya. The evaporation rate at this time of year is a serious issue. We'll need a lot more rain than the GFS is showing to stay on top of this.

Warn me?

I watered the lawn for many years when growing up in MN... no matter much it rained it always dried out fast. And have been watering here for 17 years now and last summer was the first summer in my life that I did not need to water at all. Might not happen again this year.

Its called summer and I love it. :)

I was going to do a bit of hiking at chinook pass but unfortunately the trip has been canceled since my brother got called into work. I could go by myself but not as much fun that way :/. We’re going to try and do it sometime later next week. I’ll look into the McCall basin area though sounds interesting!

Half a foot of rain this month and the yard is still showing signs of drying out... tomorrow will fix that problem.

Drier than my lawn! I don't think this weekends half inch of rain is going to be enough, I'd start watering stat!  :)

Cold Season 2023/24:

Total snowfall: 26"

Highest daily snowfall: 5"

Deepest snow depth: 12"

Coldest daily high: -20ºF

Coldest daily low: -42ºF

Number of subzero days: 5

Looks like about 24-30 hours straight with light rain in a stationary c-zone here.   Very effective at soaking in and thoroughly watering the grass and plants.    My lawn will be back to lush green by Sunday morning.    But might be in need of watering again by the holiday weekend.   I usually need to start watering in earnest here around the 4th of July.

It's funny, that doesn't look too different from the flat patches of grasses around here. I suppose consistency is more important than quantity to some degree, though maintaining a high humidity and cloud cover can help a lot in keeping things from drying out. Unfortunately we're heading into what is statistically the driest part of the year.

84 at PDX, 87 at HIO. Wonder if this is because of the soil moisture discrepancy created in May/June.

PDX is also right next to a big river, slower to warm up when there are NW winds. Don’t worry, they’ll catch up today.

18z GFS just took a crap on the Fourth. Overcast in the valley with highs struggling to break 70.

It’s going to verify. Just watch.

Cloudy and 70 sounds nice.
