October 2023 Weather in the PNW

Recommended Posts

Best weather I’ve experienced since I was in Seattle. First time the air has felt “dry” since the June smokefest. So this time I can actually enjoy the weather.

Warm season might deliver some parting shots on its way out, but it’s fighting a losing battle. Bye bye summer, won’t miss ya.

They haven't put a new anemometer up on Crown Point 🥺😭 how am I supposed to know if the winds are gusting really strong to go up there 🤔

They can have my old one.

Just put this awesome, Davis-compatible ultrasonic unit up on 10/3. Cost me and arm and a leg (almost literally, was sore af afterwards😆) but it was worth it. Stable in low wind/inversion situations and halves the measurement interval vs old unit.

SeaTac reporting fog. If the temp drops another 23F in the next hour, we'll have to watch the roads.

We had a 73-34F day yesterday with no wind. Friend is keeping the boat in the water later than normal since we don't have any storms on the horizon for most of Oct.

I'm headed to the South Carolina beaches on 10/14 for a week,  looks pretty 'cool' for their standards in mid october.  Highs in the upper 60s/70.  lows in the low 50s.  cooler than here right now.  lol. a beach vacay in jeans.  oh well that's the chance you take going in October.  2 years ago it was in the 80s the whole time, same week.

Fog still holding on here but we should clear out within the next hour. High clouds from the next system will be the only clouds soon.

A few high clouds here now...

Rolling 5-day precip anomaly from the 12Z ECMWF shows a Nino-like set up with the brunt of the systems heading into Oregon and splitting over WA and SW BC.    Still plenty of rain for all though and comes in waves.    Every day through next Sunday has some afternoon sunshine on the 12Z ECMWF so it probably won't be that gloomy or cold.

KSEA running -12F compared to this time yesterday. Clouds are steadily burning off and we should catch up soon enough, though 80F seems firmly out of reach.

Nearly 5” at my location on this map. Would be a great way to start a new water year.

Atleast this October should be wetter than last year…but doesn’t look super wet coming up. Thought we were going to be wet this fall with the developing Niño but so far that’s not been the case.

Are we looking at the same models?

To be fair... he sort of right from his area northward.    Technically the ECMWF is a little drier than normal over the next 10 days from my area to the border and near normal in Seattle while the focus is down south.

Wet down in Oregon…but not so much up here. I don’t buy the Uber wet gfs runs and think the euros more accurate. They do need it down in Oregon…and it’s not really a dry pattern up here but I was hoping the pendulum might swing towards really wet after the dryness recently. Sure September was wetter than normal, but October’s falling behind a bit so it’ll probably balance out. Was hoping for a fall like 2021.

Clouds starting to infiltrate and the temp has plummeted to 71! It’s over!

Just a thin band of high clouds up there and it will be sunny again... you might be able to salvage part of the afternoon!
