Down in Philomath today. On the way there was a great sunrise with rain/mist/fog to the west and then the sun peaking through from the east with the foothills visible.

Is that the town where Phil invented math?

The cmc has more of a euro look with overrunning possibilities after the trough,  not cold enough yet though. Gfs is just lost. Nothing new there.

Kind of splits the difference between the gfs and euro. It’s digging pretty far offshore days 9-10.  Cool but also wet rather than white.

See above post. I lazily took the lack of comments as a sign it was a letdown.

It's interesting many if not most of the GFS ensembles are more on the EURO train of at least a 2nd cold trough.

I don’t think people are irritated. They are fun to look at.  It would seem like a reasonable idea to at least look at the temperatures being modelled during the snow storm

I think something a lot of people do is just look at the snow maps…but don’t actually break it down based on surface temps and mid level temps. That was something big that I didn’t understand when I first started out on the forum. I just looked at a map and it says it’s gonna snow so it will!

Real talk though Andrew, I was semi-disappointed that the 00z CFS didn't get the 516 thickness line all up in here.

That's a wrecking ball pattern for the Winters Hill region however. And it definitely was on Team Sequel Trough

I'm excited about that first trough coming in on the 26th. We had 11.5" on the 26th last year on that date.

I wouldn't call it an overrunning event in the classic sense. It's a 2nd cold trough dropping in.

Though in your area it functions as an overrunning system, down here I would probably go rain to snow with it.

Watching this in real time, it does look like after the 29th the operational GFS is an outlier on the warm side. A number of ensemble members do show the 2nd trough. Though the mean is right around 0C on the 1st/2nd.

12z ECMWF and EPS are going to be the best runs yet, atleast I hope. Realistically I'm expecting them to be worse than their previous runs.

That mountain has to be the most snow starved 4k elevation area in Washington state. Strange

I was cleaning up pics on my phone and wanted to snow you a comparison with snow on Mt Si.    First pic was yesterday and second pic was the evening of January 12th.    It can look wintry once in awhile!

Oh ya I know, I see it glingto cabin. For 4k feet it sure don't hold snow very well but it's not surrounded by mountains either.
