It was a very strong niño, in some ways more-so than 2015/16 despite the lower ONI. The way it developed was also unique in the post-1976 era (pacific climate shift) in that it began as a niño-costero/EPAC event with the low frequency projection spreading westward from there, which is the opposite of how niños have developed since the late 1970s.

Where-as many if not most significant niños during the 1950s-70s developed similarly to the 2023/24 event (1972/73 being the most recent example).

Maybe we're setting up a 1950s-70s climate regime redux lololol

Very wet day today. Sorry for those up north who missed out.

Cool and damp out there. Everything's a little wet with drizzle, but nothing more than a light mist. I have more hope for tomorrow as models have increased rainfall coverage.

@bainbridgekid randomly came across this video from Seattle in 1970 today and it showed some scenes from Opening Day from that year.  It was much nicer back then on the first weekend in May!

Good summary... thanks for posting.   The forum censor won't attack you for posting this map.   But some of your maps definitely do not please him and he starts throwing a fit and mocking you.   Hope to see a bunch of them coming up!

59 in North Bend this afternoon... just enough rain late this afternoon to wet the deck.  We will make up lost ground the 2 days though.

Hard to believe it cracked 60 today with just some drizzle when models a few days ago indicated a sub-50 high was possible with 1” of rain. If this were snow, the Puget Sound weenie meltdown would’ve been off the charts!

But stayed below 90.   90 degrees there hasn't happened since 2008.    And also in 1963, 1964, and 1983.

I know, my point was just that you posted an obviously outdated chart of daily record highs. Not sure if there was agenda behind that or not. It looks like that chart hasn't been updated since 2016. SEA set two daily records in May 2020 and four in May 2023. There's been plenty of record heat in May recently.

Only place I know to look is WRCC site.   Didn't notice it stopped at 2016... but assumed 2023 was missing.

Portlands average first 80 is May 6th. About a week ago many in here thought it might happen today.

Hey, that’s my birthday! Looks like this year will be about 25ish degrees cooler than that.

Today had interesting vibes; 49 degree rain with fully leafed out trees and a high sun angle. Long and light, wet and cold. Felt unique.

Only managed to get 0.01” of rain but at least it did rain a bit. Hopefully there will be more the next few days because it looks like it might get dry for a while after Tuesday.
