February 2014 in the PNW

PDX NWS thinks precip will go a bit further north than modeled:

"NOT TO IGNORE AREAS FARTHER NORTH...PROFILES ARE ALL SNOW,. THERE IS

PLENTY OF LOW LEVEL FRONTOGENETICAL FORCING WHICH IS MORE LOOSELY

ORGANIZED OFFSHORE BUT WILL PICK UP THIS AFTERNOON OVER THE AREA AS

THE CLASH OF THE COLD AND MILD PACIFIC AIR COMMENCES AGAIN FARTHER

NORTH. THIS WILL ALLOW PRECIPITATION IN THE FORM OF SNOW TO GET GOING

THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING AND AGAIN EXPECT BANDING TO OCCUR...LIKELY

FARTHER NORTH THAN THE MODELS ARE SHOWING."

This is great news. Thanks sharing.

The latest HRRR model will not make people north of Kelso very happy.

It looks a little slow... but the overall evolution is not good.   It starts to come north and then all gets shunted east.

Guest Winterdog

2 major week long arctic outbreaks this season, and this is the most snow I have gotten from it...just depressing. My 3" of snow came from a non arctic storm that lasted about 6hrs. First time in my lifetime where we have had 2 dry outbreaks up here.

I'm jealous.

12Z ECMWF definitely shifted everything south... still brings it up to our doorstep though.     And then shunts it all east early tomorrow morning leaving most of the day dry.

Back from a walk. Totally stunning out there. The combination of sunny skies, a snow covered landscape and temps in the teens is just spectacular.

Hard to believe there is even more snow coming!

I just enjoyed a walk outside too. Frozen pond, redwing blackbird males staking out their territories, calm no wind, a fine layer of white spread over everything, and the crisp air made for a very enjoyable time.
